Maverick - BFA (hatchdate: 05/04/2016)
I've always had a fondness in my heart for the little dinosaur-footed creatures with wings. As a kid I found a Mockingbird baby on the ground that had been abandoned and I nursed her back to health until she was able to be released back into the wild. But ever since we got Maverick I just LOVE birds.

There was an injured crow in my neighborhood, so my neighbor (having seen us with our parrot) called me and I ran out, cornered him, toweled him, got him in our carrier and took him to a vet that rehabs injured wild birds. Poor little crow was super calm, almost like he understood he was being taken care of! Didn't even fight the vet when they examined him.

I was stressed about interviewing the other day for a HUGE job opportunity and there were birds outside the window sitting in a bush all poofed up together trying to stay warm and away from the snow. They were SO FUNNY to watch.

Today, I was walking the perimeter of my house. We have a blueberry bush that NEVER has berries on it because the little birds/squirrels are so much quicker than me at finding them. We tried putting a net around it to preserve the fruits. Well, I tore it off today because I found a little bird (not sure species) trapped in the net! He had somehow gotten in and panicked and couldn't find his way out! :( So I yanked off my fleece sweater, grabbed him, and untangled his tiny little toes and he took off.

Sorry for the rant!

Just wanted to vent about how darn cute birds are, and how soft my heart has become to them since building a relationship with Mav. :green:

It seems that you have found the reality of: Being Owned by an Amazon! Although, you have always had a soft spot for Birds. Your Amazon has created a larger and open spot next to the one your Maverick has created.

Just another reason why: Amazon's Rule!

Continue to Enjoy!

Awww great story. They do steal your heart and its so great this world has kind hearted souls like yourself looking out for these little guys.

I remember when i was about 6 years old and a little Sparrow used to come land on my hand every day for nearly 2 weeks. My parents couldnt believe it. Id feed him and just run around the garden with him/her. Another time i found a rejected chick on the floor and refused to go to school unless my mum took the chick to the vets but sadly the lil guy didnt make it. Also maybe 7 years ago on holiday in Scotland i found a baby Robbin who didnt fledge as quick as his/her brothers and sisters and had a slightly damaged wing with a wound. I presumed it was a boy and called him Ian lol. I would take him everywhere that week on my shoulder, clean his wound twice a day and feed him bread and worms as i didnt know much about birds really. He got a little stronger every day so i would stand him in my hands and lightly throw him in the air a little and he would be flapping away, flying slightly but always safe landing back in my hands. I did this a couple times every day as his strength grew. On the very last day of holiday i was so worried about leaving him as he couldnt fly. We were just about to leave and i had made him a nest in a tree outside, stocked with food so he had a chance at least. I held him in my hands again and asked god to help him out. I threw him up so high, he started flying, i couldnt believe my eyes. He was so happy flying around and came back and landed on me, chirping and then flew off into the sky. It was a really beautiful moment.

We made him a page on facebook lol, search Ian Paul Stewart and we send him a birthday message every year and there are pics of him and things, ill find a link. I dont know the lifespan of Robbins but i hope he is flying high, chirping away with his own little flock now or he had a good life x

Fast forward to nearly 5 months ago, i decided to buy a Quaker Parrot from what i thought was a respectable breeder. His wing was really damaged on the same side as Ians was and he wasnt in great shape either so in a way i kind of think it was fated for me to find my little Xander and to take really good care of him and give him a loving forever home. I would not change him for the world, he has changed my life alot and gave me a great love for all birds, especially Parrots x

This is Ian.
