If anyone was wondering: we are still getting by. I still have some of the rats, but got rid of most. Have fewer than 20 still(4 adults, the rest babies) and will probably reduce that a bit more still yet. After what happened and with things moving forward so quickly with the move, it just worked out best to downsize the rat colony. Fatty is still very very quiet, he stopped talking mostly and went back to just bird noises for a bit, but is starting again to talk. He still looks for Pistol every time he comes out of his cage. My man and I have been discussing what to do if he doesn't bounce back to his old self and stop looking for Pistol. So far we are hoping time and attention will bring him back to his old self but if not we may have to try and find him a friend. I know not every individual bird will like every individual bird and there may not ever be another bird Fatty wants to be friends with, but we have to try something if he stays this mopey.



Bought a truck. Picking it up Wednesday, looking at properties the week after. Sorry for my inactivity. Part from business, part from my own mopeyness. The inactivity will continue, but hopefully not as complete silence. Hope all is well with you lot, with luck I will be back soon with more happy comments and such.



Baby chick and baby duck are well. As are dogs, cat, etc. All is as well as it was last I commented here I suppose.

After reading this post I went back to see what you were talking about. I am so sorry for your loss! I had no idea about Pistol.

Give Fatty a bit more time. When Bixby died, I did exactly what you did. I showed Maya his body so that she would understand what happened instead of constantly searching for him. She did go through a "grieving" period of sorts, and it was a while before she returned to normal. But she did get there. In their own way, they just need to go through the process, you know?

That said, if you want to get another bird for you, I think you should go on ahead. I would just avoid getting one solely for Fatty.

And again, my deepest condolences for Pistol.

Thanks for the update. I remember when you posted about the incident with Pistol, I am truly sorry. With my female passing this year I did the same with my other bird, showed him her body and he seemed to know she was gone because he didn't call for her after that.

His new companion comes home on Saturday, I am so happy for him to finally have another bid to see and hear again.

It is HARD to own multiple pets in one household... even when you're careful, accidents still happen. With our one big dog, two cats and one bid it is a handful.

You approach a tragic situation with honesty and clear-headedness, laudable. The update is appreciated, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn from what you've shared.
