And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
...First off, I MUST thank our family member, and someone I hold very near and dear to my heart,Ms Gail (GaleriaGila),she is an amazing lady who has given me strength and determination in the last year or so to "fight the good fight" so to speak, and I agree 100%on what Wes (Texsize) said about too much of this heart crap going around:mad:

So...some of you may know a little about my story, others not. With this "family" here, that we share I felt the need to share my side.

The truth here,is on my dad's side,we have bad tickers..period. My Pop passed on just over 50 years ago when I was 12 years old, right here in this house in this bathroom,Easter Sunday, 4/12/1968 he had just got home from the hospital on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday went into the bath to get ready for bed and never came out under his own power.

On Mothers Day 1996 I had my first attack,I was forty years old.A few days beforehand I had some "aagina"(sp) and a little gas..burping. Late in the afternoon it hit me hard, severe chest pain and cold sweats. My brother David raced me to the local hospital ( I KNOW should have called 911!)
When they checked my blood they found enzimes that your heart puts into the blood when you have a cardiac incident. An ambulance then took me to Hartford Hospital that has the best Cardiac Center in the state and I was told I needed a double bypass.
I was in fine shape after the surgery :)

Five years later came number two. The graph they used for the by-pass ( a vein from my leg) failed and I needed a stent. I was good to go after that also

Two years ago while at work,I had an incident that I thought was number three ( know I know what they feel like and got immediate attention) but thank God it was a case of very bad angina: This was basically caused by a 15 hour work day and the immense stress I have in my life (loosing my house that I grew up in, and a couple very close friends passing who were younger than I).etc etc This caused me to "retire" and get on disability.

Number three came THIS past Easter Sunday..I thought for sure I was going to finally see my mom and dad! 50 years to the day he passed away!

The good doctors found that one artery has a slight blockage that they felt was too dangerous to insert a stent and they put me on blood thinners, but my current stress level has not changed yet.

Number FOUR happened this past Wednesday. The same symptoms..burps..only slight chest pain when I woke up and it went away..then I needed to take nitro glycerin tablets but that only helped for a few hours.Friday morning it was BAD and I called 911. Rushed to the nearest hospital then up to Hartford again. Blood test showed more enzimes in my blood. They inserted at stent this time. I was told this one did "moderate" damage to the already broken heart muscle:(

I do not know how I'm going to be/feel. It feels like someone has hit me in the head with a 105mph fastball. My eating habits are pretty good..I very rarely eat fast food..I eat a lot of chicken, fruits and salads.. I don't ever use salt (except maybe on a nice fresh cob of butter/sugar corn
I rarely drink alcohol BUT I DO smoke cigs..I started back up after quitting for nearly twenty years! do to my stress!! So I gotta work on quitting once again.

I am stressing big time now over my fids :02: There is only my older brother David, where I would not be here typing this if it were not for him! And my 32 year old son.
My son wants nothing to do with the birds..oh sure he thinks BB is the sweetest thing around, but he would not want them. I honestly believe they would be dead in six months in his care. David would take them in,BB loves him to death but Amy doesn't know him well and He wouldn't take her out for rides in the car or bring her outside on a nice sunny warm day. I believe she'd go to a shelter or be left locked up in her mansion to pluck herself silly and wonder why she is there and where is Dad :02: These thoughts add even more stress because it is a reality that "could" happen.
He can handle Beebs and absolutely adores him and vice verse.
He told me when he stopped by here to feed them and give Amy her med's that little BB made so much racket as soon as he heard the door open and was whistling his heart out to him! BB jumped right on Davids hand as he was taking out the water bowl and ran up his shoulder giving him the wolfie whistle lol it made Davids day he said and he actually stayed for about an hour while BB sat on his shoulder and sang to him :D:D:D

My very good buddy Al called me tonight. For some reason for me,I feel a close bond to that guy lol..Maybe cause we have a couple of the same interests..music..motorcycles..or families..and of course our FIDS.

I have been kicking the thought around in my head, that IF something DID happen to me,would he consider adopting Amy,but then I recalled on one of his posts awhile back,he couldn't think about a second fid cause of Salty, and that is totally understandable. The wonderful guy that he is tho,did say he'd foster Amy until he found a SUITABLE family for her..God Bless you my friend!

This all may sound quite morbid to some of you fine folk but it IS a reality I must think about and I'm in tears writing this. If/when this ever took place, the person/persons/family MUST be an Amazon Snob!!

Ok I said enough and prolly bored the crap out of you
Good night my friends!

Jim, not bored at all, you crazy man-dude-person-you!

We are all mortal, no matter how much we love to ignore that fact ;)
I am having this this discussion with my friends (who I trust to do the right thing if wake up dead one morning/ my mum has instructions to butt out till they are finished ) on a regular base.
(We are all in the process of losing or nearly losing parents, so it is not a weird topic anymore.)

Yes, of course you worrie!
We all know what a huge amount of time it takes to keep the fids happy and healthy, and how rare it is if a parrot lands on both feet when it comes to the human they (have to) join.

Cuddoos to Al to promise you that!
It is not easy not knowing where the fids will go or where they end up (just like kids I immagine) - and sometimes trust is all you can have.

I do make sure I socialize my birds to the max to increase their chances at a good home later - yup I am that morbid - but it is not easy to do with a bird that exclusively bonds with one.
(The greys are a breeze being flockbirds and all- yes, they kind of pairbond, but easily tolerate other flockmembers as well, not sure how Sunny will turn out)

I wish you a long, long time here and don't let your days be filled woth worries about "what ifs" just enjoy the "here and now" -> it's all we *really* have!

(hmm I have to go hug a bird now, no my eyes do not leak, it is a trick of the light!)

I gave such a huge sigh of relief when you said Amy has a safe place to go that my husband asked me what was wrong!

It’s not morbid! I think we all think of these things, at least we should! I have a letter tucked into my will that states who gets each of the tame pet birds, and a list of people who have agreed to come and handle the placement of the non tame birds; people who know and understand what a good home looks like for a parrot used to an aviary. You aren’t morbid, you are a great parront and I’m so glad you have the relief of a safe place for your feathered family!

Geez. I'm so glad that you're ok- Amy and BB need you! Though I'm sure it puts your mind a little at ease to know if something did happen, there is someone who could care for them until they find them loving forever homes. BUT you have to stay positive that situation is in the future and right now just focus on recovering!

Jim, I pray that your contingency plans remain unnecessary for years to come. But it is a testament to your love of your birds and the responsibility you take for their care that you're thinking all this through. You're a good man, Jim.

Jim I wish you well with you health and with your caring about the continued care of your friends. No one would ever think that hearing about your love of anything is boring. I've only been with my friend Bill a YHA for not even a blip on the radar yet. Having how he has changed my life in that short time I can only imagine the bond you have with your birds. Life sometimes hands us stuff that is hard to explain. I do believe that good things come to good people, and I believe you have family and friends that will help you out. I got on here to meet and learn from people like you. Please keep your spirits up not only for yourself but for your friends, feathered and with skin.

Jim, what an astounding story of mortality, doctor's dogged determination to preserve life, and your incredible spirit! Good to know you have a contingency plan for Amy and BB, may it stay on the back burner and wither from lack of use!

Sending you my deepest healing thoughts. Now toss those cigarettes!

Jim I do hope the Dr. can get things straitened out.:smile046:

As we are all the custodian's of such long lived companions it is necessary to consider what will happen to them when we are no longer around or able to care for them. I guess I am luck in that My Son is just as interested in my Fid family as I am. I know he would be happy to care for them in my absence. If he could just get a job I know I would not have to worry.

I am sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with your heart:smile016:
Wish I could offer some kine of advice but the only thing I can think of is trying to reduce your stress level.

Back when my migraines were at there worst before medication was able to get things under control I read a couple of books. 1 was on self hypnosis and the other was called something like "the Silva method of mind control" or it might have been DeSilva. I know this sounds like it belongs in the whoo whoo section of the library but the brain is capable of some amazing things.

If you try this don't expect instant results, it takes time and practice and patience.

Hang in there buddy we are all keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Well...This Thursday (the 8th) the movers will be here at 8am to move me and my "stuff"..some to storage, others to my brother David. Amy and Beeb's and their houses will be the last to move. David has even gone as far as ordering proper house covers for both of them. I am somewhat apprehensive about the move, not for me really, but the kids. Amy has been here for nearly thirty years,it's the only "home" he knows:eek: I am hoping that with all the socialization she has gotten thru the years it'll help with him settling in better.
I am not too concerned with BB. He is a young boy and he grooves on uncle david, but still...it'll be a new place. I think with time,Amy will get along with David. Amy "tolerates" him now,and maybe because he will see David every day,he'll get to know David better, and I know my brother will try to make friends...sighhhh..

Any tips/ideas on how to make this transition a positive one??
And then there is Missy, the sixteen year old kitty..who has been an indoor kitty all her life. Amy has lived with a couple kittys in her life and has never bothered them,or was bothered by them. This will be new to BB.
