I have a mental block on internet site advertising, however an add on this site made me giggle. I noticed a dating site from Romania or something, I haven't a clue why google would think that type of advert would be appropriate for a parrot forum but hey, what ever rocks your boat :33:

LOL I have 3 types of addblockers running ... so no clue what you are refering to ;)

(Who want to be pestered by adds anyway? Even when you are not autistic they must drive you insane, right? The internet is already over the top enough for me.)

Google buys large blocks of Ad space direct or more and more commonly from a broker. They sell to their clients with the belief that with their spiders and bots they selectively screen to find likely individuals with a higher likelihood of selecting /opening their Ad. A growing number of Ads include an x box commonly in the upper right hand corner. The belief is that /this will limit this /that type of Ad. There is also the possibility that it only helps to define you better. Who knows for sure. Ad Blockers (as noted above) are a growth segment, but being cheap, I tend to just mentally block the Ads.

I wish I could (mentally block them) - because I know some sites really depend on the income they get from showing adds, but they really drive me op the wall- not having enough/ dysfunctional filters of my own ;)
So I am terribly glad the blockers exist - I would have given up (and have with some sites!) on the internet a long time ago.

(I love the race between youtube and one of the major addblockers, the moment the first figures out a way to ruin my vieuwingpleasure .. the addbloker-teams will come to the rescue)

They arenโ€™t targeting the forum, they are targeting you! Every site your MAC address touches is stored! Try searching on lawn equipment for a while and see what shows then!

Get uBlock. Never have to worry about it again, lol. Ads are generally based on your browsing history as well haha.

Yep! For a while, my partner and I were sharing the same computer. He was searching for hardware tools for his work, and I was searching the latest sales at Victoria's Secret. What showed up throughout the websites were ads for skimpy men's lingerie

Just use incognito, clear your cache/cookies/browsing data, use your browser's ability to request that websites don't track you, etc etc - and you might be set back to default info. But using Facebook definitely doesn't help the ad situation either :p

I second uBlock. I feel so satisfied just seeing the number of ads blocked haha

Then again, like Christa said, some people do need the little income from ads on their websites. So I only allow it for selected sites :/
