To our many Members, Friends and Family Members who have served their Country, we take this day to Thank You and Them.

This special day is always celebrated on the eleventh month, on the eleventh day and at the eleventh Hour - the day and time in which the First World War ended in Paris, France.

"Veterans Day, a U.S. Federal Holiday, is a time to honor and thank those who are serving or have served in the military and are still with us.
Note that Veterans Day is different than Memorial Day, which is a day to reflect and remember those who lost their lives in service to their country.
On Veterans Day, think about how you can show a veteran extra appreciation. Attend a Veterans Day parade or event in your area. Ask a veteran about their service and really listen. Visit a VA hospital. Display the flag to salute our veterans!"

Each Country has a special day for their Veterans, I join you in your special day of celebration.

Aw shucks they are talking about me.

I was Navy and then Coast guard.

But I never saw combat, engineering field....

Good post Sailboat; and thank you to all those that actually had to let slip the dogs of war.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I know so many wonderful active-duty and retired military folks. Their risks were often barely separated from those who perished in combat or related activities.

Enzo - adopted Female CAG circa 2004. A truly amazing young lady!
Yep, a very emotional day for me. My home village saw a massive turnout at our senataph, from scouts upto members of all of the forces, many veterans and civillians all came together. The A59 which is a very busy main road was shut for an hour whilst the ceremony took place as so many people where their and spilling onto the road.

After several beers in the pub with my family we went back to my brothers house where my mother presented my brother with my grandads (dad's side) medals he had earned as a dispatch rider in WW2 and then I was presented with my grandad on my mothers side's medals. He fought in Africa and Europe, his last act in the military was to enter and help those remaining in Aushwitz, he was the first of the British to enter, that must have been harrowing. As a kid I was very close to my grandad, he would never talk about the war, he told me all he ever did was peel potatoes!

Utter respect for all that fought in all conflicts, laying down there lives so that we could have ours.
