Excerpt:
Police are investigating after several birds were stolen from a pet store in New Haven and the estimated combined value of the birds is nearly $15,000.
A newspaper delivery man called the police just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when he saw that the door to the Worldwide Fish & Pets Store had been pried open and officers who responded found a door propped open by a piece of metal and feathers, according to police.
They then contacted the owner of the store who realized birds were missing, including parrots, conures and cockatoos, worth around $15,000 in all. The store owner says several items including cages were stolen, and that the total loss could be $30,000.
"I was numb. I was numb," said store owner Peter Sachs. "They took birds that I had hand-fed since they were little babies. I got them at three or four weeks old. I had them for a number of years.".........

We may need to check on Jim’s whereabouts during that time frame!

Jim, I know you have an iron-clad alibi for the night in question!

Hopefully the abduction was caught on tape and the birds will be returned unharmed. Disgusting behavior, truly disgusting.

I wish they would list the specifics on the birds so that we could all be on the lookout for them!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Horrific, what an awful crime. Hope the birds are located and safely removed; the perpetrator punished to the maximum extent.

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
This breaks my heart and makes me sick...It isn't even about the monetary loss, but the terrible trauma to the birds...can you even imagine...and, of course, cockatoos were involved, so you know it was LOUD and TERRIFYING...so so so sad. I feel so sad for all of the birds...they don't know what is going on and they will be treated terribly...Who knows if they will ever get over it (even if recovered!) I HATE.....people...sometimes...

The scarlet McCaw was sighted outside of the pet store on Amity Road about 10 am the morning after the theft. I think she eluded the captors, but how can she survive in the 30 degree weather in CT? Any thoughts? Malinda

parrots can survive cold temperatures if exposed gradually over a period of a few days. I imagine that the bird could have made it a few hours at least (despite the change). The issue would be lasting long-term without a gradual transition and food etc.
Did they get her back safely?

The owner hand-fed her...That would be my best thought...the owner should call out to her and place food around for her....

Maybe a drone if money allows.

Was she your bird?
Perhaps someone has her---a bird like that is very obvious.
A reward might help? Maybe try making Youtube videos?
Don't lose hope (whether she is yours or not).
The point is, if she got very cold...she probably would have sought shelter with people before just giving up...just my opinion.

A drone is basically a VERY VERY tiny remote-control helicopter with a camera on it. If you flew it around, you might be able to spot her from above.

As long as there is food for the bird to get...there is hope.

Many macaws are very happy to play in the snow etc ON THEIR OWN TERMS (when they have both an aviary and a warm place to sleep etc-and they can go freely from one to the other- they usually will choose to be outside in the cold. They will start eating a about a third more than usual -> all that extra energy goes to keeping them warm.

So putting out feeding stations (if nobody thought about that by now) would be essential!

I hope that bird got in a nice bite on the thief before taking flight! I often wonder what would happen if my Bird got out? I would think Bill would come to me? He follows me around now wanting to be with me 24/7. Have any of you guys have it happen, and if it did what happened?
