Tractor Supply...

...they opened up a store in mid-November. This store is maybe a five minute WALK from my brothers place

I have never been in a TS until this one opened. I went there today,looking to see if they carried companion birdie stuff (Roudybush to be precise). No parrot stuff period

But geez-louise they carry a bunch of critter stuff,besides the normal tools and power equipment and clothes and and and! There was deer food and goat food,wild bird food of course,rabbit food...you get the picture,right? They even carry something called "Neigh Nibblers" it's a five pound plastic jar that has horsey treats in it lol. Treats that looked like a halapino popper made from apple and carrot and something else lol.

Today they had an area that had six of those galvanized oblong tub thingies that could be used to hold water for a horsey to drink from. In the tubs were..BIRDS! BABIES! They had baby Bantam chickens..and they had baby turkeys...and they had assorted Daffy's! soooo !##^&% cute!
The girl scooped up a Banty chick and said "here..hold her!" I was like..."ummm I think not,coz then I'll want one to bring home" She laughed and said that was the point! She said I couldn't buy just one,had to be at least SIX

but they were only $2.99 each...cheaper than a baby Budgie in these parts lol. turkeys were $6.99 minimum two. ( the girl said the poor things were good enough for "human consumption" :02: I told her if I had a pet turkey I would never be able to have it on Thanksgiving again...she agreed.

I’m with you Jim - I have 5 pet turkeys that are 4 years old....they are so darn cute and friendly as babies and when they grow up they are kind of like feathered dogs that follow you around. I have no idea how anyone can eat them??? I’m not allowed back into Tractor Supply until chick season is over or I would have a huge flock :52:

I have 5 of them....my hen is probably 15 lbs and the 4 boys are probably 20-30 lbs each. My husband had fits because he thought they were going to be dinner at some point - but no, they have names and will never be eaten

. After 4 years he has resigned himself to them being pets! He can’t escape the birds - parrots inside, chickens and turkeys outside

Have one a couple of miles from my house. My daughter managed it for a short time. I shop there all the time, Wait till you see the baby ducks

even better: smell/snif baby geese ....
I've been told by several people that is the best smell in the world

(even if they are only a few hours old /the geese, not the humans of course)

I have a TSC also, I take clark and zod because they are pet freindly. The also have chickens and ducks I let them see them but no contact because not sure how sanitary.

It certainly interests them.

Just so happens, we were recently given one of the Barbie dreamhouse chicken coops with attached exercise pens like the ones Tractor Supply sells, the one we have was ordered and never used. Since we are organic gardening this summer we thought, why not, baby chicks and fresh eggs are hard to resist. The little ladies are quarantined in our guest room until they get big enough for the great outdoors. We are working on their enclosure making at as predator proof as possible in Central Texas.

They are growing so fast.

I laugh because I have always said “chickens are the gateway bird”. I started with chickens 9 years ago. Then it was guinea fowl. Then Quail, ducks, Turkey, pheasants, geese. Then came the indoor parrots, CAG, conure, Goffin. Then I took some training time and now I have my federal permit and it’s songbirds, woodpeckers and lots of owls. But it all started with that cute fluffy little chick! Cheap, easy and lay eggs and then you realize they are individual and have personalities. But then you’re already way down the list having a parrot!

Ha, ha - I totally agree. I started with chickens that my husband had to talk me into getting. Birds have so much more personality than most people realize

. My chickens are all pets and are somewhat trained, but my hubby wouldn’t go for having a “house chicken” so I started considering birds that I could share the house with....and then parrots happened. I think I’d probably be flying solo if I get into bringing in wild birds lol
