Game Of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)

Surprisingly we have no specific forum for dragons (tried to open one, I was outvoted, the other mods feel sure none of us have a dragon) so I had to post this in Off Topic. I cheated and binge watched the entire series before the final seasonís first episode. I was amazed at the negative reviews, curious to know what PF members think of the final season? Or the series itself?

Re: Game Of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)

I HATED the finale. I think the show was brilliant....Loved it, literally until the end...when I was VERY irritated lol. It could have been done so much better...

I agree! I can think of several alternate endings that would have been way better!

Re: Game Of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)

I was unhappy that Cersei had such a peaceful death in the arms of her lover....would have rather seen her suffer more like her son.

I, like others was expecting more from Arya....but Bran the Broken??????

Didn't like the fight between the Hound and the Mountain....who pulls a knife out of his head and continues to fight.??

The scene where Drogon mourns the dead Daenerys was the best scene in the final episode. I was happy with they way they killed her.

One of my sons and his wife feel exactly the same way, theyíve watched the series from Season 1 and loved it right up until the finale, they share your disappointment.

David, I tried to tell them that, the truth is out here and we are not alone.

Youíre right, Cersei deserved to melt with the iron throne!

I agree with Drogonís scene too, best scene in the finale.

Re: Game Of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)

I liked it. Didn't love it, mind, but I liked it.

Perhaps the slippery-slope from the beginning of the Great Battle to the very end was too quick for some people's liking, but that's how War is. I thoroughly approved of the dim lighting and mist:that's the Fog of War and any wargame player or footsoldier would recognise it. Perhaps Danaerys' sudden change from benevolent Queen to vengeful monster was too quick, but then she was a damaged personality and had fire in her blood. What else would you expect, really? The moment when she *looked* at Cersei's keep and knew it was the only obstacle to her dreams... well, what else could possibly have happened? Tyrion hit the nail on the head when he discussed her in prison with Jon Snow.

I was sorry Tyrion didn't get a better outcome. He deserved to have found Love (which was all he wanted, as evidenced by his helping Jaime to escape to (kill? die with?) rejoin Cersei. Tyrion had a massive longing for Love and his plaintive 'You were all I had' to Jaime nearly broke my heart! (Also, Peter Dinklage is *so hot*, you just wanted him to have someone).

It should have been Sansa, but she was self-serving right from the beginning. I don't think she did a single thing for anyone else through the entire series and, true to that, she kept her kingdom out of the final agreement and reigned it as Queen. Now, *she* deserved to be alone!

It was so poignant that Jaime finally realised he was unworthy of the (formerly unsullied) Brienne and went, instead, to end his life with the one with whom he had shared its beginning. Blood truly was thicker than water and the family connection of the Lannisters might have been nasty and violent occasionally but it was *always* strong (as shown by Tyrion's reaction to the twins' deaths).

Nice to see Bron and Sam Tarly rewarded by high office. Davos lasted the distance and it was good to see him there at the end. Hilarious when Edmure Tully rose up to throw his cap in for the crown and Sansa said 'Uncle: sit down'. LOL!

I thought Arya's ending was unsatisfactory. While she was never a Lady and always a Soldier, she never showed any desire for exploration, only for survival. Suddenly, she wants to leave everyone she fought for and held dear to go into the west? Nah. Didn't work for me. Felt like a handy drawstring at the end.

Poor old Jon Snow's ending was sad at first, but when you realise he's going off with the free folk to found a new life it's probably not so bad. He'll find someone to love and whether he fathers children or doesn't, who's to know?

I think the disappointment felt by many was because the cataclysms came in the Great Battle and then Danaerys' descent into madness. Nothing could top those, so it was always going to be anticlimax at the end. It might have worked better to stop the story with Dany looking out over barbecued Kings Landing and smiling, then have a separate epilogue that goes 'You may wonder how everyone ended? Well, this is what they did...'

So yeah. I liked it well enough.

Re: Game Of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)

The ending was rushed. Jon got screwed, Sansa got rewarded for being a backstabber. Tyrion is the only one who came out more or less ok. Bran and Arya did nothing. Just boring. IMO.

Re: Game Of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)

Better endings/questions--

Before her execution, Missandei (sp?) was cuffed in the front so she could have taken down Cercei (sp?) before she was beheaded--grabbed her and jumped off the building.

Arya could have worn Jamie's face to kill Cercei, or she could have killed Danerius (sp?) by wearing Grey-Worm's face (or even John Snow's or Tyrian's)---Yes, then they would have died, but this show has never been kind to lead characters, so something like that would have been more epic. When Jamie was found dead under the rocks, I honestly expected to see Arya's face or something...it was just too easy to end things as they did....

I don't see why the Hound had to die in order to kill the Mountain. I am also not convinced that falling into a sea of fire would be enough to kill the Mountain...Wasn't he kind of like a zombie? Are we even sure he is dead lol??

Bran the BORING could have sacrificed himself in some sort of epic way----I mean, the kid knows everything that has ever happened and everything that ever will happen, so as it turns out, he is just kind of an emo jerk lol. I don't think he was a very likable character and he certainly came off as boring and pretentious. Who would want him as a leader? I feel like he is the next "Mad King" waiting to happen...so I would have been more accepting had they made him slightly more malevolent about his new position as king.

Breanne could have gotten pregnant with Jamie's kid--that would have meant another future half-lannister and a cliff-hanger.

Cercei could have blown up the white-walkers with wild-fire early on and then she could have kept control of the 7 (leading to a more convincing war). When the city burns, you can even see puffs of green (implying that she did have wild-fire)...so WHY didn't she use it? If we take a more fanciful route, her child could have survived in some way...if she has given birth prematurely but then been crushed, then someone could have found the baby and that would have resulted in another possible cliff-hanger ending.

There could have been some sort of surviving faction of white-walkers...I know when the night king died they all went with him, but that seemed very abrupt as well...It was all too easy...

Also, it made no sense for John to be exiled to "The Wall" when we all saw it blown up 2 episodes prior---why were people still there? How was the wall standing after the dragon attack? I thought everybody joined together to fight, so why were people still hanging out there anyway? There was nothing left to protect...

Arya definitely should have done something better...Dora the Explorer....ugh...

There was no resolution with those forest people...the first people from before the white-walkers....unless I am mis-remembering...

It was totally weird when all of the kingdoms voted Bran the king--- they were all just sitting around in this tribunal but we hadn't seen them in ages and suddenly they all just were willing to get along??? And, what was he even going to lead? The 3 people left in King's Landing + a bunch of people who were already autonomous...? For being so powerful, he is basically a glorified title-head. What's the point?
Also, if Nath is part of these kingdoms, then isn't Bran technically in charge of them as well? Yet Grey Worm just runs off, while John stays North (which is fine, other than the fact that he easily could have returned, since no one stuck around to ensure his absence).

Are we to assume that Sam is just cool with the fact that his whole family died? Maybe I missed it, but I am pretty sure they all burned up when the dragon attacked the city...yet there was no mourning.

Finally, I found it hard to believe that one dragon would be able to destroy everything the way it did when the other 2 were taken out so easily.

Just a few of my questions/rants about the way they wrapped it all up....
