I rember as a kid seeing box turtles whenever I walked in parks in the woods, or even in my yard.
It's been such a long time since I've seen one.
The new trick to avoid conservation and dedicating space to many life forms, is to say they have become expatriated from an area. That's a fancy way to avoid saying they are becoming extinct across large areas, or even states. It's saying they aren't around here anymore, but I'm sure they are still somewhere...

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Used to see them crossing the streets here. Now that you've mentioned it,I haven't seen one in a very long time

Thank you for sharing the articles, it’s good to see conservation efforts are being made but so disturbing to see yet another species in decline.

We can all make a difference. Add native plants to your backyard, add a water feature, leave the leaves brushed under bushes.. instead of a sterile cut grass desert.. I've done this for a couple of years, the difference is amazing, adding native plants like viburnum, service berry , a native plum tree....made an amazing difference. If each of us added native plants to our yards, quite using insecticide, made water available, nature would rebound. I and my neighborhood was amazed at the difference we saw the very first year.. thanks for reading, I hope I reached at least one of your hearts, one person does make difference!

The back half of my lot is rustic! Ornamental grasses, guava, pineapples, cooontie and cardboard palms, and heavy hedges(podocarpus and burfordi holly)! A walkway through the middle. Several really sweet snakes keep the rodent population down!

My treasures that have moved in are glass lizards, summer tanager, American red start, greater crested fly catcher and blue birds into my best boxes :) :) :) :) owls, hawk, and American kites make a visit, and an armidilo had her babies under my Holly she eats all the fire ants . And toads which had been missing from my yard for five years.. Zebra Longwing and gulf fritillary use my passion flowers, ok I'll stop so much life moved in, but those are my favorites so far
