Hey guys! So, yesterday I was in the gym. And this song was playing. It had a really "obvious" bassline, quite loud. I had never heard the song before in my life. I turned to my personal trainer and said, "you hear that bass?" and I mimicked it. I said, "when it changes, it'll do this..." and I mouthed out this 'next part' I had been hearing in my head. Sure enough, the bassline did change... And it did pretty much exactly what I thought it would! I've actually suddenly started doing this kind of thing recently. I was eating dinner, and I got this lovely chord section in my head. It was soft, and it kind of... Lingered Then I started hearing a drum beat and something that seemed like violins. Similar things have been happening all week, and I've been having things like this, albeit infrequently until now, for years. I don't know where this is coming from, and I'm not trying to show off, because I don't do that.

And I know Michael had a similar ability, much greater than mine though. I'm not trying to replicate him or whatever... I mean what I say. I keep hearing these things. Does anyone know why this is happening? Does anyone else have this? Is it bad?

Blessed with talent! Also, being mentored by the big Michael, you would absorb many of his skills! What you feed, grows!
I can ‘see’ some music, so I understand what you mean!

I wouldn't say I'm talented. I would just say I've been given this gift and I should use it.

Thank you! Yes, I play instruments, write (in the way I described) and sing.

So you are an artist! I think all artists have to be able to feel something special!!! I wish I could play music.

I had never really thought much about it, but now that you mention it...
I can often harmonize with a song the first time I am hearing it, and so can my brother, who's a professional musician.
Yeah, I guess it's based on musical inclination plus familiarity with common patterns of composition, chord progression, stuff like that! We need to have a jam. :)

I am inclined to agree!

The mind is an amazing instrument. The more that is properly set in place, the greater its ability to create /make Links (connections). So, what seems as abstract /random connections (what occurs next) is founded in the minds ability to create Links. If one understands that Music is rarely a random collections of tones, but more a structured sentence, what comes next is in fact far less than random.

Music that is in fact abstract /random in its form has a very limited appeal as the Human Mind finds comfort in consistency, a flowing of thought (tones).

Enjoy the richness of your mind. It becomes even more enjoyable when you allow it to free flow to begin finding links in dissimilar concepts /segments and defining a "next" segment that flows, but is not what someone else has done.

Enjoy the depths of your Mind!

Pretty common trait among musicians. I can hear a chord change coming a mile away on most music. Allowed me to do a lot of side man work in my middle years without needing charts or sheet music.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
I suspect the human brain is far from completely evolved. Latent musical talent may be the precursor to a more predictive thought process, eventually precognition or a more shared thinking abilities, ie ESP.

Also I play bass guitar (the birds aren't too impressed though)
