This is the world we live in, our mods do a fantastic job removing them, but as with anything in life these days, don't be silly, people advertising lottery winnings and iPhones on a parrot forum are not your friend, be smart and look after your own security.

Quite right, and you are incredibly sharp-eyed with superlative instincts! Spammers are adapting with creativity and have begun weaving narratives from the body of a thread. Click on an unknown link is fraught with harm.

I believe Tammy actually caught one today in real time!

Yep Tammy booted their sorry butt outta here in record time!

What the spammers fail to realise is now that I’m unemployed and have no life, I have PLENTY of time on my hands. I’m watching you guys (and girls) ok?! :58:

The worst spammers and scammers are on Australian Petlink, and the website never gets rid of them, but the Parrot Forum always gets rid of them, well done
Thanks

Can someone explain to me why anyone would bother to spam a small parrot forum (of all things). This seems like a misdirected use of internet trolling resources....lol

I have NEVER understood---I mean, what benefit is there? There are so many larger forums in the world where spamming might actually pay off. Can someone more familiar with this whole game enlighten me???

If I were a troll, spammer, hacker, scammer, (whatever), I can't imagine finding an obscure (tiny) PARROT website and posting my sludge/ads/weird random stuff there---it's just so obvious (and pointless)--have any of us ever bought a house in Asia or tried a new weight-loss pill because of these ads? Am I missing something? LOL

Good question and I cannot answer! You'd think spammers would seek fertile ground with reasonable return for effort. Then again, I always marvel at the mini-novel advertising stuffed into mailboxes and newspapers. The companies must believe it worthwhile!

HAHAHA so true....But, when it's all free (as internet spamming is), one would think that the payoff would be better if time were spent elsewhere! Those mini-novels must work for some people---can't see that happening here haha!
How does one even find this website if the sole purpose is to post things NOT about parrots :) ?!?!?

I also can't answer but to me this isn't a small forum:p But my experience is only with two forums, if this is a small parrot forum, the second one where I am is so tiny parrot forum:D There we had a lot of spammers and everybody was a bot spamming in Vietnamese or something simillar, I'm not sure what language exactly is. Recently the problem is smaller but sometimes they still spam. Each of them is banned but there register new ones

There are two piles that these individual can be poured into - kind of like Parrot droppings...

The first group is Marketing based and their goal is to get someone to click on the Link. So why: With search groups like Google, the greater the number of searches a Link receives, the higher in their search results that Link appears, which increases the likelihood of increased traffic to the Link. And, one must remember that there is a sucker born ever minute and as a result, someone buys the stuff.

The second group is dark web stuff and their goal is to gain access to your computer, your companies computer and group or institutions (like Parrot Forum's) server. From there it depends on what their target mission defines: Pure mayhem, like shutting down the server, stealing the user list(s), launch site for attacks on other servers, etc... With the individual's computer, they target personal information, contact lists, with smaller, but still destructive attaches on individuals on your contact list using your Email as the Sent From.

The number of scams that they can launch from a few computers 'or' back on that computer (think a takeover of your computer and a demand of money to allow you access to your computer).

The Why; All the basics of the darker side of Humans. Power, Money, etc, etc, etc...

They are not really trying to advertise here and sell a product as it may seem. It more so they can get traffic by the click directing you to another at site which they get paid for. Second one is so they can get you to click link and in some cases they can may you think you have a virus, or something and the people that are not tech savvy may actually call the 1-800 number to try to get fake issue resolve and they pretend to be even Microsoft and have fake website and whole nine yards. Then they pull the scam and steal 1000's from you. Lately gift cards is what they are after. Refund scammers and tech scammers are the two most common ones. Refund scammers will pretend you have a refunding coming back and will have you log into bank account and pretend to overpay you and edit and inspect the element and change the values, so it show a larger amount in your account, but is not really live. People think it real as they see large fake amount in bank account and then give these guy the money, or in gift cards thinking they were overpaid. Use to be a IT director at a midsize company and you be surprised how many fall for this type of low level scam. Then you have the more advance ones that will steal people identity, database, launch attacks, deface and take down servers and etc.

One of my favorite hobbies is overloading and taking these call center down and locking and deleting everything on their network. Most of the time they use laptops and even better as lock bios down as well as a syskey. They also have to pay for the call service, so when phones get overloaded they request to change numbers and we do the same again. These guys are not bright at all and most of them are not even tech savvy and read off a script.

2nd group dark web, scary stuff!

Dark web, or dark net as it commonly refer to is a whole another topic as most those you won't see, or ever knew existed as they use tor onion encrypted routing and etc as they are trying to hide and sell services and people trying to obtain illegal services. Hence why Bitcoin and other form of digital currency became so popular. It a good way to launder money if you selling illegal services, or leaving overseas to avoid taxes customs and etc. Silkroad before FBI took it down was what made Bitcoin big as people use bitcoin to get paid to sell drugs and illegal services.
