Don't have many, but one holiday tradition occurs at the very end, or beginning depending on perspective.
My maternal grandmother was born very early New Years Day. Our family celebrates by eating her favorite food in the early afternoon. We graze for hours at an awesome Chinese buffet, one of the few restaurant categories typically open on January 1.
We donāt really have any traditions - but we do go out every New Yearās Day to watch the huge flocks of bald eagles (100+) that hang out on the river near here to eat the nasty-smelling dead salmon . Iām going to have to do it on the 2nd this year, as Iāll be flying back from my parentās place on the 1st.
Not a very classic āfestiveā tradition, but it works for us!
I smoke a bowl of what is allegedly Bing Crosby's favorite tobacco in a pipe modelled after his preferred pipe while listening to his "White Christmas" album
We do lots of things that are normal, but the most bizarre tradition is to burn down maiden grass!!! lol!!! It is supposed to be chopped or burned back every season, but it's more fun when you have been drinking and are in a large group..
About 6 years ago, my uncle (the instigator) actually inadvertently melted a portion of the very proper neighbor's fence with the blaze (it wasn't that close, but apparently it was THAT HOT). It was very funny..thankfully he is very comfortable financially lol!
here is an example of what it looks like---but we do it at night and the plants are larger lol!
