Re: COVID-19 Virus

After having open heart surgery almost twenty-five years ago ( double bypass...bad tickers run in the family on my dad's side) and having FOUR heart attacks in all ( My cardiologist says my heart is only working 30% of what it should ) My son is getting married ( his first time) to a wonderful girl December 5th. He is almost thirty four and Stephanie is thirty.
CT is digressing with this pandemic. 6% positivity rate yesterday, hospital over 500,almost 1700 testing positive and twenty four more deaths
I am a prime subject to catch this disease..if I do I will die and thats a cold hard fact. I don't even know if I can/will/want to be there and James enjoys one of the most important day of his life. Thanksgiving David and I usually go to his son Joe's place..it's not gonna happen this year.

Re: COVID-19 Virus

I'm feeling blue about the pandemic.....and trying to decide if i eat with my parents only 3 miles away

I ran to the feed store in the next town , I hit it when all the ranchers were there. Not a mask in sight...went inside employees and customers no masks....while I waited in line the customer in front of me shared that two of his family just got out the hospital after weeks, then the owner shared that two of her family just died of the virus ....and yet neither had a mask on!

I had a mask on, I cane home and sprayed shoes with lysol and took a shower...but then I'm stressing because I was just around 20 people with no masks...and does that mean I shouldn't go to my family in 5 days....Florida like most places us exploding with cases

Our county has steep uptick in cases and hospitalizations, but literally everywhere I go the peeps are 100% compliant.

Re: COVID-19 Virus

It's a lot of the private gatherings that are spreading it in my state. The health director said it was being fueled by "small neighborhood gatherings and game nights" (or something like that).

It's good that people are complying in public, but I know some very conscientious people who still feel like having a dinner with a friend at a table (masks off to eat) is safe, when it really isn't because no one ever knows everyone else's contacts. I could think I am doing everything by the book and my dinner friend could feel the same, but if dinner friend has a boyfriend who met up with his friends 2 nights prior, and those friends had previously met up with 4 other friends, then the indirect exposures and community spread grows without a clear source/point of origin...If someone has a job or socializes at all, hanging out with them basically exposes both people to the other person's contacts. What is that thing about degrees of separation and celebrity affiliation? I feel like Covid is very similar, only it's contagious.

CDC only looks at direct exposures-- not the indirect ones (schools are using the CDC models (in theory) to respond to cases and quarantine. So, let's say I go and kiss "Billy" who was unknowingly infected by "Bob". If Bob infected Billy, then Billy could have infected me, and I could be running around infecting close friends, family and co-workers...UNFORTUNATLY, If Bob doesn't get tested, no one in this theoretical chain of events will be notified of close contact (Not Billy, not me, not any of his co-workers) UNLESS Bob gets tested. Now, if "Bob" does get tested and is positive, then only "Billy" would be notified by the Health Dept (if he answers his phone and if Bob is honest about his contact with Billy, despite the fact that I kissed "Billy" after his exposure to a confirmed case). Even if "Billy" tells me that he had close contact with a confirmed case, I would still be allowed to go to work etc etc (and could be punished for staying home to quarantine, in theory) because my contact with Billy would have been indirect, and therefore undocumented...and Billy is not obligated to tell me anything unless he tests positive at some point. In this theoretical situation, I would only be notified if Bob and then Billy tested positive (and only if Billy remembers to mention our interaction when contacted---and again, only if he gets tested, which is not likely if he is asymptomatic). So, basically, for a potentially contagious person to be notified, it could require a large number of indirect contacts to GET TESTED (not just wait out their symptoms) and then follow-up with contact tracers (which is happening less than 50% of time time in many places) in order for contagious contacts to actually hear anything...scary!

SO many people with mild symptoms don't waste time getting a test if a family member already has COVID (because they assume they are positive and have to quarantine either way). The problem with this mindset is that it does not protect the untested person's classmates, teachers, co-workers etc...No tracing or quarantining of contacts occurs without a positive test....Furthermore, people keep getting confused about negative test results prior to the 14-day window....As though a negative test negates the need to quarantine after a confirmed exposure (it does not).

Bottom line--- if you were exposed and are quarantining without symptoms, then you have to continue quarantining regardless of your test result, BUT you should consider getting tested about 5-7 days after the exposure in case you have been unknowingly infecting people who also would need to be notified. A negative test result doesn't mean you don't have it or that you get to leave your house (because you can be contagious but not test positive until the 14th day) BUT a positive test result means that people will be contacted and given some protection at work etc.

It doesn't help that many doctors and most test sites discouraging testing children and asymptomatic people (due to test shortages)....and then we have the states that don't care at all and will keep bouncing national totals upwards (as this virus knows no borders).

Reminds me of high school health class. “When you have sex with your partner, you’re also having sex with all of their previous partners” and so on.

Re: COVID-19 Virus

I’m grateful that my in laws have finally canceled Thanksgiving. Not that I don’t want to see them - but 4 households getting together feels like a bad idea right now. Both of my sisters-in-law also raised concerns, along with mine - so my MIL has finally decided to cancel. Being a lovely person, she is dropping off dinner for each of our households and we’ll wish each other a distant happy thanksgiving. I’m sad but glad, I would be devastated if anyone in the family got sick because “the rules didn’t apply to us”.

I’ll help out at the parrot rescue on Thursday (instead of my usual day) since she typically is short of help on holidays.
