Re: Accommodation Suggestions
Welcome, hope you have a terrific experience visiting some of America's grandest cities!
Chicago: I've stayed at Hyatt Regency and Swissotel properties many times, both on East Wacker Drive. Easy walk to many attractions, including food. Don't miss deep-dish Chicago style pizza; my favorite is Gino's East. (several locations) SFO: No shortage of excellent hotels, though I've typically stayed at mediocre airline-crew accommodations. San Francisco is an "outdoors" city, so I'd place a premium on location. Many friends have enjoyed bed-and-breakfast venues as alternative to hotels. St. Petersburg: Have not visited for a long while, best bet is to ensure the hotel has excellent air conditioning for August/September! |

Re: Accommodation Suggestions
Enjoy PS: Sadly, SFO has lost its appeal, especially if you plan of walking... Better to use a guided tour to avoid the areas taken over by the 'homeless problem.' Are you flying or driving between these Cities?

Re: Accommodation Suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I actually had short listed the Swissôtel for Chicago, so good to know I am on the right track. Pizza is definitely on the menu. We only have 3 days in San Fran and I really just want up see Alcatraz and the painted ladies. I am a full house fan. We are flying into Florida from Las Vegas and then catching the train from Memphis to Chicago and doing the California Zephyr from Chicago to San Fran. Hubby is a train nut. We are also spending some time in ft Lauderdale, Huntsville and LA. We have 5 weeks over there. I cannot wait to visit.

Re: Accommodation Suggestions
Train ride across the US is a mix of leaving the Chicago area to crossing the Mississippi, to the boredom of the Great Plains (much like the Outback, but greener) to the eye popping Rocky Mountains...
Enjoy!!!
