Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.
This may not win the popularity vote. But in my opinion Hybrid Macaws , perhaps more than any other hybrid parrot type are such grotesque distortions of Nature's beauty, however charming the individual parrots that are involved in the process may be.

I love macaws as they are . There can't be more beautiful and magnificent birds than the Scarlet, Hyacinth, Blue and Yellow, Red and Green and the Blue throated Macaw, probably in that order!

That’s as may be. I don’t know about anyone else, but I certainly wouldn’t have the heart (or the courage!) to separate two determined lovebirds such as these. If the eggs are viable and the owners have the resources to hand-raise them and ensure that they are given loving homes as these are, then why shouldn’t they have a chance at life?

Besides, hybrids happen in the wild all the time. Even here in suburban Brisbane I’m always seeing little corella/galah mixes and rainbow/scaly breasted lorikeet hybrids. ESPECIALLY the lorikeets, seriously they will shag anything!

Hybrids do happen in the wild but they are a very rare phenomenon and and often an aberration that is 1 in a 100,000 or 1 in a 10 million probability ie. out of 10million Galahs and 10 million Little Corellas, one individual will indulge in hybridisation ; the propagation seldom goes beyond the first generation and even if it does it gets diluted by natural selection.

This article is about Cichlids as Aquarium fish
but the principles he talks about are more or less the same for almost all animals.

All true, and thus proving that the odd hybrid here or there does no harm. Either they are unable to continue to reproduce, or occasionally they may just add a little “hybrid vigour” along the way.

Live and let live, that’s what I always say :)

Hybrids do happenn in many species. Even species that are far removed , like what happened in Hawaii, the whaolphin (A wholphin is an extremely rare cetacean hybrid born from a mating of a female common bottlenose dolphin with a male false killer whale) also blue whales , and sperm whales have bred with a lot of species,

I also do not condone trying to breed hybrids.

But this thread is called love will find a way.

I think it is a beautiful story. The owner wasnt trying to set up a breeding.

I'm glad their bond will be respected. Love dies findva way. We hav call heard of freindsh love between things deer and bunnies, or a tortoise and a hippo. Love is a powerful force.

Love will find an way and love should find a way and nothing should come in between. Only there can be ways to prevent that love from producing an output.

Also I am uncomfortable with this quote from the article

Q"If they produce more miliquins, those will be for sale."UQ

It is more sad considering the fact the Military Macaws are doing badly in many parts of their range. And even Red and green macaws cannot be called common birds.

Yes sweet story, but not something that I would recommend and clearly something that organization should not have allowed by placing them together.

Yes, Hybrids do occur in nature. But, only near the edges of species' natural ranges or areas where as a result of natural disasters opportunities for reproduction becomes serious limited.

As the natural ranges of Parrots become ever less populated, there becomes a need to 'restock' those natural ranges... As the number of Hybrids continue to raise, the number of specific species reduce that opportunities to provide Parrots for those ranges...

Again, sweet, but!?!?

That store -- TC Feathers -- is where I frequent to buy food and hang out with birdies LOL. Even Parrot Wizard popped in on them once! I was out of town :(. It was unannounced and unfortunately they didn't know who he was. But they soon became fans.

The store is nice -- out of the way, tucked away in the back of a specialty service type of stores. You would have to be specifically looking for them to go there. And that's great because it means by the time they find it, people would have already had to be looking for a good bird. The owner said she purposefully wanted to be tucked away in the back to limit overexposure Then the owners and employees talk the potential buyers through being a responsible bird owner. They have refused to sell birds to people who didn't sound like they were willing to put in the work. I was in there once and heard the owner lecturing a family who wanted "a bird that could talk". Basically telling them that's not why they should look for in a bird. But they talked with them the pros and cons and it was nice to hear a store being responsible.

But yes....I've seen the milliquins in person :) Very adorable!

Totally get how crossbreeding shouldn't occur. The store is set up so in the daytime, they have this section in the back of the store where during the day, all their birds (mostly not for sale ones) have this huge open gym area where most of the macaws gather and hang out together. Guess the 2 birds paired off there. According to the article the birds would make their way to the front of the store and do their deed in the cat carrier LOL (the store has a few store cats that wander around).

Most of their macaws are not for sale and I don't believe they really sell baby large macaws (maybe they just don't advertise and you'd have to ask). Not sure. But all the birds that are sold by them are all tested for the main diseases and any birds being boarded there are required to have been tested as well.

The macaw male has female macaws to chooses, they are star crossed.

Glad to hear they are good people

My GCC and my Quaker are bonded, they have sex....o don't provide them with a nest box, they don't live in the same cage, but when they are out together they do hook up....

They didn't give nesting box to the 2 macaws either. They MADE their own nesting box LOL It is a sweet love story. If anyone is ever in Northern Virginia, it is worth the visit to them. They are great people who care about their flock and who takes them.
