The company I worked for had a training program in place Called Safe Start.

Most everybody hated the yearly training. The main dude on the videos was Canadian and he talked with this kind of buzz in his voice that was very soporific.

They liked to talk about the four states (rushing, frustration, fatigue, ect)
and actions that cause accidents (eyes not on task, line of fire, mind not on task) this is all from memory.

Thursday I was cutting up some corn on the cob for my Fids.
I was having unusually difficult time cutting through the cob.
Gave the knife an extra sharpening and it was still hard to cut through.
So I guess I was getting a bit on the frustrated side and somehow my thumb got into the line of fire.

Cut about halfway through the tip of my left thumb including the nail:eek:.

I think I may have added a few choice words to Bella's vocabulary:D

Went to the ER in my local city (hospital is a fairly new one) and had my son drive me.

Waiting room only had like 3 people in it including me.
I would say it felt very lightly staffed.

I was there for about 3 hours total in/out.. Put in 3 or 4 stitches including one through the nail.

My Tiels thought my bandaging was radioactive.

Bella did not like it but she is still allowing me to pick her up (with the other hand).

The Amazons just take stuff like this in stride.

I go back Sunday to have the bandage change maybe I have the guts to take a picture of it.

Wes stuff like that is never easy to justify in ones mind. But likely it will still be ok after it heals and you might even have learned stuff from it.

I had a similar 'lack of attention' when chopping up some, lets say an illegal substance, many years ago. Cut the tip of my left middle finger off, just hanging by a scrap of meat. Left hand, my fiddling hand, cant play fiddle without that. 2 days before I was going to perform with the guy who wrote the theme song for the Ken Burns Civil War series, very prestigious. Stiches out of the question, would put be out of commission for a few weeks. My answer, 6 or 7 coats of that liquid bandage stuff, which kept the tip in place, but was like having a brake shoe on the end of my finger. So I ordered a slice of pizza and kept dipping the finger tip in the greasy part to help the sliding action. Played the gig. And the prestigious guy thought I was nuts for doing it.

So hopefully you can take a breather and let it heal like a normal sane person!

I am not use to this kind of thing.
I was only in the ER for trauma reasons once before in 2nd grade.
Our Siamese cat tore up my arm.

There was pain at the very first but the real pain took about 15/20 min. to set in.

Funny enough when I was talking with the Dr I told him if his services were not available I would have used crazy glue after cleaning it up. But I cant imagen using my thumb for anything. the slightest grip between thumb and forefinger sets my thumb throbbing.

The Dr may have thought it was just talk but I set my own broken toe. I only went to my Dr for a record of it.

Ouch, that sounds painful, Wes. I've cut myself silly preparing chop, so here's how I cut corn on the cob:

Place the cob on the side on cutting board. Use a sharp knife to "score" a line just below the surface. For the final chop, hold the knife with one hand in position, use other hand open-palmed and whack the knife hard from 1/2 foot above. Once cut into "wheels, lay flat and repeat, chopping each wheel into 4 sections. My birds will *not* eat loose frozen bagged corn!

Then there's the story of a finger in the chili at Wendy's. Turns out the "victim" actually planted the finger.... https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/wendys-chili-finger-lady-comes-clean/1884507/

Wes, the want is for there to be pain when you touch or move the end. Sadly, the more the better as it is a statement the nerves are transmitting. Also, no numbness.

Al, When such an opportunity avails itself, and with sailor luck, Liquidskin was available.

With truly great luck, Julio tends to be on the buzz saw side of pickiness on how his wet food is prepared. As a general statement, Being between Julio and food is a dangerous place to be...

How's the finger? I hope it is healing fine.

It’s less painful. Stitches due to come out on Friday.

Thanks for asking.

Ouch!

We grow avocados. One morning, I noticed my adult daughter using the point of the knife to stab the seed, instead of the chop, while holding the fruit! Being aware of my habit of micromanaging everything, I decided to not say anything then! Yes, we were at the ER that evening!

But, the big question! Wrench13, did you still eat the pizza?

Mistakes happen.... When I was 4 years old, went running hands outstretched into a plate glass door. It was **not** safety glass and I wound up with surging blood flow from right wrist. I now have a 3 inch scar as reminder - even as I have no memory of the incident!

Plate Glass window, Scott! So you where one of those many kids vs. plate glass that lead to tempered glass for use in those applications! And, with no memory of the event. But, of course, the extended family has deep and long lasting memories of the event, which arise at near all family gatherings.

Yup, got one of those memories myself. With time and age those that remember have and are leaving and such memories are lost to time...
