Kept hearing this weird little knocking sound this morning and couldn't figure out what it was. Finally I tracked it to the front door and a little sparrow was pecking it with it's beak. Maybe it would like to come in and join us. I gave it some of Pete's old seed mix.

lol we use to have a female black bird that got us rather well trained :) if we had not left food out for her, she would fly into the kitchen and out again if door was opened or tap on the kitchen window, when we were in kitchen

maybe she passed the word an we now have a new kinda door to door begging??? and by sounds of it your getting into the program :)

It hasn't knocked on the door again, but there are little birdie footprints on the porch in the snow.

I do put out the leftover pellets from my birds each day. And now that Pete is on pellets I may as well put out his seed. There is a flock of sparrows that try to get the horses' grain each morning as well. I figure it was one from that flock, as they aren't frightened of me. They know I'm the food provider.

Years ago when I had a lot of outdoor, abandoned cats, I usually fed them on the porch. One snowstorm they were all holed up out in the barn so I took their food out there with me. It was a snow day and school was closed so I was home. I heard what sounded like a bunch of babies crying on my porch, and here it was this flock of Starlings. I hadn't realized it, but after the cats ate, apparently they came and finished off the cat food. And then that morning, their food wasn't there. So I ended up giving them some, too. I'm sure cat food wasn't really the best thing for them to be eating, but they had come to rely on it.
