I just HAD to share this photo of our rescued, once feral pigeon Belle having an afternoon nap with my husband.

They've been sleeping like this for over 30 minutes. Belle's eyes were closed until the camera "red eye" flashed.. :(

We've had Belle since since September 16th when we found him injured outside the Azteca Restaruant. I couldn't just leave him so brought him home...got attached, tamed him down...and now he has a forever home with us.

When I initially named Belle...I really thought she was a girl...but later actions have proven otherwise and Belle is definitely a Bill. LOLOL!! I'm just having a hard time converting myself into accepting it.

Pigeons are wonderful and extremely smart I've discovered. Love, love LOVE our pigeon!

That's adorable! I've never known a pigeon to sleep on it's back like that! He has got to feel like the luckiest street pigeon ever! He's livin' the pampered life now :)

That's so cute. The both look pretty comfy!

I wish I could play with a pigeon, they're awesome birds but around here they're just in the city and kinda grumpy.

Sorry, this is kind of off topic but I saw this the other day and couldn't help but think of bella, these people have racing pigeons and they have started to make pigeon armor to protect their free flying pigeons from hawk attacks! They also make pretty cool jewelry from bird bands which I though was neat. It also got me to thinking if anyone ever considered making a protective flight suit for those that do free fly their parrots and worry about birds of prey trying to snatch them up.

Here's the link.

Very cute picture and I must say that is a very beautiful pigeon! They are supposedly smarter than parrots. They are considered the 7th smartest animal actually.

Well, I think Belle thought the same way, about being the luckiest pigeon ever.....until a couple weeks ago....when there was an awful incident with a fly strip I didn't know my hubby hung up in the house.

I let Belle out for a fly around, ran to the bathroom, came out to find Belle on top of his cage, completely tangled in a sticky fly strip!

I was so panicked I didn't think to take a picture and I sure wish I had!

He's sure looking good again after his bath in hand sanitizer and baking soda (great for removing tree pitch/sap)...to get rid of the sticky best as possible...then rinsed really good and washed again with a few drops of dawn dish soap.

Belle still has some tackiness feeling to the underside of one of his wings. But all in all...survived the incident without any negative affects. PHEW!!!

And hubby was strictly informed to let me know if he hangs anymore fly strips.

I honestly need to write a book of all the years of pet ownership mishaps I've encountered. I WISH I had pictures of all of them...like the time my horse some how got her blanket flipped over her back, slipped down around her poll, almost the entire blanket on the ground in front of her, she stepped on it when she tried to walk out of it...but as she walked up her blanket, she was lowering her head to the ground and got stuck like that...when I found her, her nose was buried in icky muck! And one of the elastic leg straps, didn't break, but stretched completely up her flank, over her back and down the other side of her!!!! She couldn't move off the blanket...ROFLOLOL!! I had to cut it off her. She was like that for at least a couple hours, because I was driving my school bus and didn't see her every time I passed the house...which I thought was odd...so of course when I got done with my route, I rushed to the barn....

Oh yea...pet ownership is truly wonderful!

I tell you, that fight suit works better than I thought it would. I can let Belle fly free through the house and not have to constantly run around finding poopies :)

The first time I put it on Belle and put him down...well, I should have had the video running because I was NOT expecting the reaction of him running backwards, hopping and barrel rolling to try and get out of it!

His reaction only lasted a few seconds, then he stood there like a statue for another few moments...then he flew off to his favorite spot on top of the fridge.

Never had a problem since and now he sits calmly while I put it on and just flies off when I'm done and say "Okay, have fun!"

:D
