Impressive red tail hawk!

I've never seen this before. My husband and I are sitting on our deck, sun getting ready to go down, Amigo in my lap, my husband points out this red-tail hawk floating above the valley below our house. I just got down posting photos, not there yet with videos.

My God! There was a good breeze going on and this bird truly knows how to ride it! He/she would hover, like a star, so still that you would never even guess it was a bird! She would then float to another area and do the same thing. She came up closer to the house and we could see that her tail feathers were her rudder, in the breeze. Very impressive! I kept Amigo close to me at that point. Although, I know that he probably experiences this daily.

Re: Impressive red tail hawk!

There are hundreds of red tails near my house that's why I don't feel comfortable using harnesses for my gcc's, I'm afraid they will get snatched up. I have a 17 pound cat and a red tail even took a go at her, and she was in my arms!

Re: Impressive red tail hawk!

We have red tailed hawks here as well. The day my Forrest got out I was terrified he would be snatched. We say one catch a dove in mid air. Ripped its chest out, dropped it but still killed the poor thing.

I love the rafters, especially the falcons. Have you seen the series A Birds Life?

It was on PBS but you can still watch it streaming which is what I did. One of the shows is about flying.
