As of a few days ago, we have a new member in our family. Her name is Yuna.{not sure of sex yet, but we will call her a female for now}
She is an extremely sick Hawkheaded Parrot. So sick I had to leave her Saturday at the vet's for O2 treatment and injectable meds. She is very underweight, but the dr. called yesterday with good news that overnight she had picked up 6 gms. She is now 167 gms. We won't know exactly what she has until the cultures come back, but it is respiratory. Her heart & spleen are enlarged, as well as most of her air sacs are filled with fluid. One of her nares was completely blocked, the other was bubbling white discharge. Her breathing is very labored. She only has one foot, but has been this way since a baby. She will be two this August.
We bring her home today. Of course super extra cautionary quarantine will be imperative for the safety of my flock, and even for myself and DH, should the results prove it is Chlamydia. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Look how much better she looks!
yunacomeshome004.jpg

I picked her up at the vet's yesterday afternoon. She is improving very quickly. Very vocal, and even talks to me. She said hi, and hello as soon as she saw me at the vet's.:cool:
She was posted on another forum I am a member of. Something just kept drawing me to her. So I contacted them, paid the ransom, and realized how sick she was on the way home. Even though she was quite reasonable on CL, I have since made the difference up at the vet's of the regular price of a hawkhead. Funny how those things just work that way...:D

She is very lucky to have picked you. She would probably have died otherwise.
Bless you.

Thank you all very much. All the good energy really helps!

This is true. She was in horrendous shape on Friday. At the vet's they could not even take enough blood. They kept putting her down and she would get that glazed look and start swaying. The stress made it even harder for her to breathe. Her whole body moved with each breath. I really had some doubts, but I had to try!

Thank you.:)
We heard back about the CBC, but not the culture yet. The WBC was 67,000!
The results are in as of this morning, but the receptionist would not tell me. I have to wait for the dr. or his tech to call me.
