one of the main reasons I wanted my nephew Josh to build me a larger aviary, was so I could give my birds more room. combining all of them into one space.

this little pied society finch is the very first to hatch and fledge in the aviary.

he flew approx. 3 feet from it's nest, so he was glad to perch for a bit and rest.
this flying around is exhausting!, haha

ok, now I'm good to go:D

look what else has hatched--3 baby canaries.
Sugar is mom-she was the one I rescued a while back :D

Very cute Beth :) I also need to compliment your cage... I LOVE IT! I want to make one just like it lol, then I'd need something to fill it with. I loved having finches.

thanks Julie & Wendy--I have to say I am VERY fortunate to have a willing participant such as my nephew Josh...it was his idea from the very beginning.

this is the other colossal aviary he built, this was his first. it's humungous!!
it barely fit thru the hallway, and we had such a difficult time maneuvering it around to get it thru the door. It literally took us 45 minutes just to move it into position to get it thru the door!
standing nearly 7 ft high, and 5 ft in length, I decided to divide it into 4 sections.

this was taken when we first put it in.

this is my nephew Josh....but I refer to him as my 'other SON'...
this is when he first started building the monster aviary

He's done such a great job. Where did he learn how to do that at a young age? I wouldn't know where to start lol

Those babies are so adorable! I love the way the finches look after they first venture off on their own:)
Those aviaries are amazing, Beth! Josh did a fantastic job:)

he's a handyman of sorts. very gifted with a hammer and nails, and knowledge.
we laid out the plans for both aviaries, and he started building.

all he wanted in return was a hug.....such a sweetheart he is!!! of course I gave him countless hugs!!

he also laid the flooring in my bird room for me :)

First the human kid... Josh did an amazing job!!! If he's looking to make money, he might want to consider posting those skills for anyone looking for an aviary!! It is much more attractive then anything I've ever seen. Send him down to NJ / PA, we'll take him to the beach, show him the sights then put him to work for making a couple aviaries for the shelter!! Give him a big hug from all his online aunts, you have to be very proud of the kid, not only doing such a good job, but being so considerate to suggest it.

The finch baby... oh my god, he is so adorable!!! I love the markings and colors. Do you keep all the babies or are you placing some of them? Beyond words adorable! You need to put up a video cam feed, we can watch finch babies instead of hummingbird!

ok, I just thought this was just so darn thoughtful of the parents....this is too cute....
the baby has been sitting on top of a metal canary nest *thing*...idk what to call it, so the parent decided to give the chick some nesting material to feel more at ease.....I have NEVER seen this!....these parents are just so very thoughtful....wow.

mom with baby(in the middle)....and my female cordon blue --the baby finch is larger than the cordon blue!!....they are incredibly tiny.
my cordon blue pair are making another nest in a hanging coconut.

Mikey- that is Jute, my finches and canaries love it....I've never had any issues with them getting caught in it, unlike other fibre materials....I'm almost out, and have to get some more :)

I'm thinking about using it for my Canaries too that's why I ask....it looks like a lovely nest they've made. My male would disassemble her nest as she's making it....ugh....

once the nests are abandoned, the other birds start raiding the nest (the Jute especially) and dismantle the entire thing in less than an hour.

mikey- your male sounds frustrating.....can you remove him until she has made the entire nest, then put him back in with her?

Julie- my heart melted when I saw that, and just had to get a picture.
