just another night in our silly house....never a dull moment:rolleyes:

my canary Snow is down with breathing difficulties again. last night Sarah comes to me and says 'you need to come look at Snow'....
......uh oh that doesn't sound good.

this was Snow last night:
you can see the other canary is agitated and concerned about Snows condition

this is her this morning :D:
hard to believe it's the SAME bird!!!
this is why I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ivermectin.

poor Snow, this is an ongoing thing with her, even with the treatment, but she always manages to land right side up, bless her little heart.

ok, after dealing with Snow last night I go into the bedroom to start getting ready for bed. We have a fireplace in our bedroom, and with spring time finally approaching, it's not uncommon to hear little critters in our chimney.
I start hearing rustling.....and sort of squeaky-- purring sounds.
It would seem we have a family of racoons bunkering down in our chimney.....lovely:rolleyes:

we had our roof done about 3 years ago, complete with new protective screening over the chimney etc.....well, I guess they have figured out a way to enter it again.

Cadbury pawing at the fireplace & Bailey

Whiskey(right) & Bailey checking out what's inside

my hubby was not the least bit interested in listening to the 'sounds' coming from the fireplace:54:.....little did he know he was going to be surprised by another visitor the next morning.

this morning we got up as usual, Sarah & I are sitting on the couch trying to wake up, and I notice Bailey looking up at the fireplace wall....I look up and to my horror I see this!!!

YIKES!!!....Oh I HATE bats.....

well, let's just say I go into panic mode, I go get Dave(who by the way was still sleeping)...I burst into the bedroom and announce we have a bat in the house!
Blurry eyed Dave comes out, grabs a pair of tongs, grabs the bat, and flings it into our neighbours yard....(we don't like them much) haha.

so between the sick bird, coons and a bat, it's just another day in the McKellar crazy household....oh my gosh!

 Never a dull moment is right, Beth.

You should have sent the bat my way - I LOVE them, I have 2 bat houses in my yard, and am eagerly awaiting their arrival this year. :D

I'm another bat-lover! Wendy, you should see our lovely little red-collared flying foxes that visit our yard. I say 'little' but they're actually about as big as a flying cat. LOL! I like the micro-bats as well, though: they're fascinating in the way they're adapted to their environment and the efficiency with which they make do in this hard old world. Yeah. Gotta love bats. I'll have yours, Beth. :D :D :D

PS. Your cats are beautiful, BTW!

LOL!!! So much action in your house! :D

I'm with you on the bat thing - no thanks! I know its silly but I still fear the 'bats nesting in my hair' thing that nasty adults threatened me with as a child. ;)

Oh my gosh, Beth, what an interesting life you lead! I am so glad Snow is better now, but wow, looks like word has gotten out in the animal community that your house is a great place to be:)

I think someone else said the same thing Terry ;)

I moved Snow and Sunkist into a larger cage and put them in the living room.

It's all I have right now at the moment, unfortunately it's no where as big as the aviary but it's larger than the cage they were in last night....and they have a beautiful view :)

I think the aviary is stressing poor Snow out, same goes for Sunkist. some birds just can't handle being around lots of other birds, so we will see how it goes from here on in.

I hope they are happier in there, by themselves:) And what a great view they have!

If you notice in the first picture with the cats....you can see the bat!
it's at the top 3rd slat just above Cadburys' paw.....
I never noticed it until I enlarged the photo.

The Canadian wildlife invades :11: That would really be something to see a bat outside! Here I've seen raccoons, but mostly just vermin like Opossums, Rats, sometimes Gophers...

during the summer there are hundreds and hundreds of them, they fly around our street lights catching all the bugs, sometimes we sit out there just to watch :)

That would be great to see Beth. I've seen it before a little ways away from the city and suburbs, usually in the areas less populated by humans.

were right by a fairly large lake(well it seems large when we are on our boat ;)....anyways, we're about 45 minutes north of Toronto, in the country. lots of wildlife here, we have rabbits nesting in our cedar bushes out the front of our house, baby possums being born in our backyard, and oh don't forget the baby racoons in our chimney.
lots of foxes around, especially at night time. black bears are usually on the farmers lands looking for food, so we don't run into them thank goodness.
