Took these on Thursday, he was being a beautiful model haha. I really need to take my DSLR out sometime, but I have to pay attention to him as he flies and worry it will distract me.

He looks like a delightfully soft bird. I've only had the pleasure of flying one soft birds. All the rest hit like lightening to the glove.

Thankyou, it's pretty cool to have trained him and fly him daily. Now just have to get Rosie flying better ;) but no free flying for her, I've seen way to many hawks for that!

@NiRD

He is pretty soft with his landings, only hands hard when he's flying with the wind and has to much speed. He's pretty gently with his feet too, doesn't really clamp down unless he's very exciting about food. I've never handled a hard bird before, all my friends birds are gentle. Sounds unpleasantlol

He is breathtakingly gorgeous, majestic. Wow. He is only a few months old?
Yup, pretty young bird. He was hatched in early may, so only 3 months old. In 9 months he'll get his beautiful adult plumage, he'll loose all that dappling and be all dark with white/grey banded flight feathers and a red tail.

There is some threat, if he were to touch two lines at the same time it may instantly kill him. The lines are pretty far apart, but I worry about the top live wires, but he never flies to the top. Won't fly there that much anymore, why risk it lol
here's a website I just read

Honestly parrots are much more work. If you're even vaguely interested find a local group or club, or even a event, try talking to falconers in your area and make contacts. To become a falconer you need a general or master falconer to apprentice under for 2 years, so good to have friends early on.

Just being around falconers and watching them fly with their birds will let you know what to expect, and if it's something you really want to do. Plus it's a ton of fun watching hawks and falcons fly :D

I admit I'm more of a falcon person, but your hawk is gorgeous. We don't get any buteo hawks in Australia, just goshawks (pain in the ass) and kites (flighty and soft-feathered).

Are you training him for any purpose, or just for fun/exercise?

Awesome. I will keep that in mind. I'll be searching out if there are any Falconer's here in my area of Florida. Thanks for the info m8 :) And again, Shaymus is super beautiful. Your lucky to have such a majestic creature.

I'm assuming there are forums similar to this one that deal with falconry. If not good old google might have to come out. I really want to try falconry, only problem is having the time to do it.
Seeing your birds made me want to look into it even more :D stunning!!

Yup there's forums, a lot of good info on them. And also Facebook pages :) check out the website ed the modern apprentice, lots of good info about disease, enclosure, and just a great place to get started
