Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
I thought it might be fun for everyone topost pictures, links, videos, of some of their favorite, unique or rare parrots. Not nessecarily ones that you have, or even want to have, butjust beautiful in their own right as wonders of the avian world.

I will start with a unique little parrot, from the island of Bonaire, the same island that Salty's species comes from. It's the Brown Throated Parakeet, specifically Aratinga Xanthogenia. Very little is written about them. They look amazingly like Salty, a Yellow Shoulder Amazon, but if you look closely, there are many differences, not the least the size. Apparently they do forage together, liking fruits as a big part of the diet. Some sites list them as Conures, some with the classification of Eupsittula pertinax xanthogenia. There are several different sub-species, all with brown throats, but the Bonaire one is the brightest and most colorful.

stumbled upon these pretties a bit back. when you think of amazons you either think the company or a almost entirely green bird, these are a touch different!

Great thread! I love rare parrots - It is impossible to suprise me with a less-known species;) (I don't mean I know them all because I don't know all species but all genera;)) So I will also post some photos.
Some explanation about brown throated conure classification - genus Eupsittula also are conures. The 2 different versons are because few years ago the classification of conures was changed - genus Nandayus (nanday conure) was turned on to Aratinga and was created 3 new genera superated from Aratinga: Eupsittula, Psittacara and Thectocercus (here: one species - blue crowned conure)

Oh, wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww... fun idea for a thread.
Ever since I saw one, wayyyyyy back in the 80s, I have been enchanted with the Queen of Bavaria! The color, the carriage... wow!
We have a QoB or two dropping by here now and then, but they're rare!
Here's a cute little show-off!

Currently I have none, but I have the capacity to adopt a minimum and maximum of two budgies - preferably a bonded pair or two males.
Great pics Rozalka

Where were these shot? I have some zoo pics too but too lazy to dig them out.

Great pics and favs people! Parrots are so varied and unique. Keep 'em coming!
Gale, Q of B was one of our original top 5 parrots, but Salty won us over. No regrets at all.

I have to add my all time favorite macaw, the Spix Macaw. Despondently, this macaw is now extinct in the wild, after some hopeful sightings in the last few years which are unconfirmed. They exist now only in captivity, and who knows for how long, as they are very hard to breed.

These are unique but not beautiful at all.

They are grotesque distortions of one of the most marvellous birds that has evolved through the hands of Mother Nature .
They are probably second only to the Feather Duster Budgie and many show budgies with feathers covering their eyes etc on how we can turn beauty into a beast.

No idea what that was about.

Cute bird though. You might have misunderstood what this thread is about, my friend.

Bu konunun ne hakkında olduğunu yanlış anlamış olabilirsiniz dostum.
