Hi,

I got the chance to buy 2 rainbow lori yesterday (6-7 mos old). I keep them in 4ft x 4ft x 3ft cage.

I noticed that their diet was on feeds. Im having problem feeding them seeds... but they like fruits so much.

Any advise on how to shift them to eat seeds instead of feeds ? Ofcourse, i will continue to give them fruits / honey.

The previous owner mentioned that they are pair. I don't believe it though coz ive read that lorikeets needs to be DNA tested. What are the signs that they are pair indeed?

I'm new to birds... any tips on keeping/breeding them is much appreciated.

hi!
I know lori's dont actually eat seed... i cant tell you why, but i just know that they are nectar birds. I feed clancy lori dry (the dry pale yellow whitey sort of mix). She used to eat it dry until she realised a year later that she can mix it with water...
She loves loads of fruits, but citrus isnt good in the long run and NO avocados or onions! They are dangerous!

Clancy absolutely loves pears, apples, watermelon (umm. if you let them out after the watermelon though, watch out for the poop. it will be red). Melons, grapes, shredded carrot, a bit of lettuce (she plays with it more). and just anything really. Brocolli is also a fave.

good luck! Loris are hard work but easy at the same time and so rewarding and funny!

Also, pictures, pictures and in case I forgot to mention it, PICTURES! I love Lory's and would snatch one up in a heart beat if I could find one around my area and if I could hide it from my wife.

Tep, the research that I have done on Lory's says NO SEEDS, they are fresh fruit and nectar birds. their poop usually runs clear most all the time unlike most other birds.
