Out of boredom today (I've been sick and have had a lot of down time) I decided to experiment and make my feathered friends some muffins. They're always trying to steal whatever I'm eating. Now they have their own snack. I journeyed to the store and bought a box of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix (every recipe for bird bread I read online had this in it... I personally think it's repulsive) I bought 2 jars of baby food (carrots and green beans because I know they eat those veggies) and I treated myself to some new tea bags because I LOOOOOOOOVE tea :p

My recipe was:
1 small box of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
1 egg
2 jars of baby food
4 oz apple sauce (the "natural" kind. I don't understand why companies add sugar to apple sauce anyway... its naturally sweet)
1 cup of oatmeal (to bulk up the mixture which was pretty runny and looked like baby poop once everything was mixed in)
I also made a few with pepper flakes in them because my Sun loves anything that has peppers in it.

I mixed it all together really well and I scooped it into cupcake papers in my muffin pan (I figured it'd be easier to pack away if they were individual servings) I baked it at 400 degrees for around 20 minutes (I never time anything. I always smell for when stuff is getting done)

I let them cool down until they were a tad warm and split one in half for my two conures (I stole 2 little chunks to give to my parakeets... I doubt they'll touch it but it was worth a try) Kayak LOVED it at first bite. She is almost always willing to try a new food. She was mad when I walked to the other side of the room to offer Carlisle some. He shook his head NO the first time I offered it to him but I kept it in his face and eventually he tried a nibble. Well, now he's hooked and was mister greedy and wanted more. Now both of them have half a piece in their treat dishes. They're happy birds :)

The one missing in the middle was the one I fed to the birds. (I forgot to take a picture before giving them some XD)

Next time I make them I'll try different veggies I find around the house to mix in it. I was just trying to find a different way to get my picky Sun to eat veggies (he's such a pain in the butt)

I make that pretty much the same. Haven't tried the oatmeal though, may have to add that next time. You can also add a bit of nuts or seed for a treat. I make it in a square baking pan, then cut it all up into little squares and freeze it. Then I can just thaw out one square at a time.

p.s. Hope you don't mind, I moved this thread to the recipes section. :)

Haha, I should've looked for a recipes section. I'm so used to only posting and reading the conures section that's where I automatically posted. I'll have to try nuts next time! My guys love nuts as snacks so I'm sure they'll love it in their muffins.
