Ive been reading a ton about sprouting. I want to try it. Im not sure if Kia will even like it. Any tips from anyone here that knows what they're doing would be helpful.
I highly recommend making your own sprouts. They're super healthy, very easy to prepare, and my bird just goes nuts for them. They're his favorite food. I sprinkle a few sprouts on his fruits and vegetables every day.
All you need to do is soak them for a day, then rinse them every morning and every night for just a couple days. If you'd like to try some great sprout mixes, check out Sprout People. Here are some of their great mixes and kits:
Bird Sprouting Kit - This is a bird sprout kit that comes with samples of three different bird mixes, instructions, and a sprouting container that makes soaking and rinsing super easy, and it's a great price!
Lil Bird Sprouts - This is the Little Bird mix I get for my Green Cheek conure.
Bean Sprout Sampler- A bean sprout sampler with great things like lentils, peas, mung beans, and other great, healthy beans. This is not only great for your bird, but great for your own salads, pastas, rice, etc.
And a way to check and see if the seed you are feeding is fresh is to sprout it. I have an Easy Sprouter and love it! I get the Napoleon Seed mix from Totally Organics. I put it in all the bird's fresh food.
Always use seeds specified for sprouting. Seeds sold to grow in the garden are treated with a fungicide to keep them from getting fungus and rotting in the package. Only use seeds meant for sprouting.
