Sydney LOVES peanutbutter, or even the almond butter I get too. Now, I know it's high in fat so I would be sparing, but I give up birdie pb&j (pb or almond butter and no sugar added jelly on a whole wheat tortilla) Though he tries to steal some of my bagel sometimes!

Anyone have any other ideas for incorporating a little nut butter into some treats for my 'zon?

At the supermarket the other day I found wholegrain rice cakes made with brown rice they had a salted variety and an unsalted variety. I took one and put a very small amt of peanut butter and gave some to each bird .They all liked it. Next time I am going to use the nut butter as glue to also hold chopped veg and fruit on the rice cake. What I was looking for was plain popcorn cakes so I am going to try the health food store.:)

Personally I think i would be a little apprehensive about store bought jellys and jams. I know you said no sugar added but sometimes they will put that on the label and then sweeten it with artificial sugars. If you look at the nutrition facts it is listed as sugar alcohols. Instead I would use a fresh homemade fruit puree(just smash or blend whatever fruit you have on hand with a touch of water to make it more spreadable) or maybe a touch of honey for a treat.

I can't have anything with artificial sugars, and I often shop at a small local Russian market that has a bakery, and carries homemade jams and jellies that I get. :) I'm very careful at what my birds get. They love the strawberry rhubarb jam!

But yes, I have made jam myself before, it's just not something I've personally had the time to do lately, I do it more in the spring or after the holidays.

Yeah after i posted i thought about specialty stores that would have "proper" no sugar added foods. I just always hate when i am shopping at the grocery store and see "no sugar added" but then it is loaded with artificial sweetners!
I have never made jam but i used to make fruit smoothies by blending some fruits with a little water lol!

It's surprisingly easy to make yourself, it was one of the things I learned to make in home-ec class in middle school! Go figure it'd be useful now that I'm an adult.

The Russian Market I go to has a hole wall of fresh and organic seeds and dried fruits and everything at very good prices, in addition to a lot of Amish goods (I live in Philadelphia, so, naturally) and their pastries are ADDICTING! I could go broke there and I swear, I shop more for my birds than I do myself!

I live in a very small town so i doubt any specialty store are nearby here :( I just moved here a few months ago so i am not terribly familiar with the area. I took a few years of home-ec but dont remember ever getting taught to make jam!
Thats how i am! Everything i have bought for "myself" these past couple months has really been for my bird lol! Even the gifts i asked for christmas were for Khaleesi! I added a sushi dinner to my christmas list just so i could get something!
