Hey again guys. :) I'm wondering what brand of pellets and seeds to feed a INR? I've already found the Ingredients to Pellets thread that lists different brands of pellets which seem to fit the recommendations of ingredients, so I was wondering if I should go ahead and order one of them or if there was a different list I should go by?

I thought I remember seeing something similar for seed mixes posted somewhere, but I can't seem to find that again.. hmm. Should I also buy a dry seed mix (any suggestions?), or feed sprouted grains in place of a dry mix (along with fruits, veggies, ect of course), or both?

I'm completely new to the bird world, any information you guys could give would be a tremendous help. :) Thank you in advance!

I assume by INR you mean IRN?

Personally, I use a mix of Roudybush and Harrison's, just so the pellets have a slight variation (mind you, this is with my GCC. I'm yet to have my IRN). I also highly recommend sprouts over normal seed, as they're highly nutritious and are quite easy. You do need to be extra careful with preparing them, though. We have a thread on it with excellent instructions :) The way my feeding works is in the morning, Avery gets her fresh fruits and veggies. She has a specific amount of pellet in her bowl available to her (I monitor food consumption closely to help with training motivation). When I come home, she then receives a mixture of veggies with sprouts for dinner and receives nuts and seeds during our training sessions.

This way of feeding her helps me give her a balanced diet with mainly fresh food supplemented with a healthy amount of seeds and nuts with pellets for vitamin balance as a backup. Avery receives a sprout mix with 8 different types of sprouted seed and veggie and fruit mixes with at least 5 different greens, 3 colourful veggies, and 3 small portions of varied fruit. This is the feeding regime I plan to use for my IRN as well, but we'll see what happens when I try :p

I hope this helps and that more experienced IRN owners chime in.

EDIT: oops! Sorry Mikey, didn't mean to go against forum policy with that link.

It depends what the bird is eating right now! That's why you need to ask whomever you get one from what they're eating right now to decide what to feed/purchase for the time being. You can always change things around down the road but you need to try to keep it to the same at the beginning if at all possible. I don't start changing diet until they've been with me for at least a month. You can add fresh fruits and veggies to start of course.
