Hi,after looking in the cage section i came across a topic which included that parrots can have grass.
Is this true?i have a community garden in the middle of a forest and have my own patch of grass that is safe from cats and such.
Could i just give that to them?

I don't know about all grasses, but I do have some timothy hay that my cockatiels enjoy.

What type of grass is it? I have a sprouting seed mix that is technically designed to be planted in outdoor enclosures for tortoises, providing healthy and fresh items for them to graze on like they naturally would--I sometimes plant the same seed mix in smaller pots/containers and after they've sprouted to a certain height put it in my hamster enclosure and allow him to nibble on them, as well as using it in one area to create a "meadow" for my land hermit crabs who enjoy eating the seeds when the first begin to sprout as well as nibbling on the grasses and plants themselves once they've started to really grow. My Nanday has already shown interest in one of the pots of these seeds that I have sprouting in my window, so I plan on planting some in a jar or tray, letting them start to get established, and having those be specifically for the birds. Of course I'm always very careful to make sure the planting medium I use doesn't contain any potentially harmful pesticides or fertilizers--my standard planting mix in this case consists of either 100% peat moss or 100% coco-fiber/coir with a generous amount of 100% natural worm castings mixed in also as an organic and safe fertilizer. Here's a link to the specific mix I use--it consists mostly of grass hays (alfalfa, timothy, oat grass, etc. and plants like various clovers). I'm a big fan of this particular source for seed mixes since they're guaranteed organic and are very high quality with excellent sprouting rates, but the same type of seeds could be easily acquired from other sources and used as well Grazing Tortoise Seed Mix 1/2 lb Free Shipping! I have bought a flat of wheat grass and placed it in the bottom of my G2's cage and he went absolutely crazy for it! He forages in it, rolls and "ants" in it. I would hide treats in it and watch him dig and scratch for it. and if it got pooped on just take out the flat and spray it off, it cleans it and renews the grass.
