I brought some "Orchard harvest" soak & feed but am having a few issues. The instructions say to mix 1.5 measures of water to 1 measure of the mix and then cook it for 5 mins (either in the microwave or boil on the stove) but the issue is i am only feeding it to one bird and in small quantities there is no way i could cook it for that long... Do you think it would be fine to feed if i just mix it with boiling water and leave it to sit (with a lid) until it cools? Or does anyone have some advice to help me out here?

I havent tried it on the stove as i dont have a small enough pot and in the microwave it turns into a rubbery mess after just a few minutes at half power...

Edit: I chose the orchard harvest because it said on the website you just add warm water and let it soak for 5 mins (the others all mentioned cooking) but on the bag it says to cook it...

I use Volkmann Soak & Simmer and the instructions sound similar... I put about 1/4 cup water in a coffee mug, heat it in the microwave for 45 seconds, add about 1 tbslpn soak and simmer, cover, sit for 15 minutes, drain, test for temp and serve.

This one is like a powder form with fruit mixed through it... There are no warnings one it about under cooking so im hoping this means i wont kill him by not simmering it for 5 mins but it would be comforting to get some confirmation before i do so...

I dont use that particular mix but I use something like it. And only feeding it to two birds. I will usually make the full batch according to what the bag says. Then portion it out and freeze the rest for later.
