So, birds shouldn't have dairy because they can't digest the lactose, but what about lactose free stuff? Mine get an occasional bit of cheese as a treat- they love it and don't suffer any ill effect, but cheese has very little lactose left in it and they only get a little piece.
My eldest cat is not well so I cooked him some fish and chicken as a treat. I'm vegetarian but will buy chicken drumsticks for the zoo- the cats get the meat and the birds get the bones and everyone's super happy (except me!). This time I put chicken drumsticks in a pan, covered them with lactose-free milk (cats can't digest lactose either) and baked them until well cooked, to make the meat a little softer for the cat. Can I now give the birds the bones?? It's lactose free milk so will that be ok, or have I just ruined their treat?
