Do you want to be a hero to your parrot?
Do you need a way to make cage time less-stressful and more exciting?
How about naturally calming anxiety, stimulating endorphins, aiding digestion, along with a slew of other benefits?
I sort of created this idea of herbal bouquets and my parrots LOVED LOVED LOVED them!
I went to my local organic produce store (it's very important that all your herbs are organic and have never had synthetic insecticides sprayed), and picked up the following for my bouquet:
Fresh Organic Dill
Fresh Organic Oregano
Fresh Organic Rose Hips
Millet Spray
Bee Pollen (sprinkle a little in the bouquet for a sweet and healthy surprise)
*Note - please look into safe and non-toxic herbs that are specific to your parrot.
I took a sprig of each and tied it into a lovely little bouquet, then fastened it inside the cage, next to a favorite perch.
My little Cinnamon Green Cheek Conure, who is usually stressed when I leave, didn't even care that I was going! He was too engrossed with his new toy/treat/wonderland!
My new parrotlet literally devoured the dill before I could leave the room. She was an herb-munching machine!
This is a fantastic way to make saying "bye-bye" fun, healthy, and stress free!
Here is a general list of safe herbs to offer to all parrot species. There are MANY more that are safe, but I needed a "beginner" list and found this one helpful!
Anise (Pimpinella anisum)
Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
Bee pollen (Monarda)
Borage blossoms (Borago officinalis)
Bottlebrush (Callistemon spp.)
Coriander/cilantro (Coriandrum sativum)
Dill (Anethum graveolen)
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)
Lemon balm (Melissa officianalis)
Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Thyme (Lamiaceae Thyme)
