I give my monsters a low-seed mix as one of their meals, usually midday or at night before I put them away. First meal of the day is their chop, then pellets later in the day, and fresh veggies at random to change things up.

The blend I get currently is a bag-it-yourself by the pound affair that Pet Supplies Plus sells. I always freeze my blend for a few days before giving it to my flock, but I want to look into a better blend for them. I want to get whatever I pick established with my flock well before I bring my congo african grey home.

I was curious as to if anyone here has tried any of the blends that is sold by Drs Foster & Smith, and if they would recommend them.
This is the one in particular I was looking to get: Omega-3 Blend

Are there any other brands you'd recommend for conures and tiels, and then later, CAGs?

I'm also still looking for a good pellet brand for CAGs. I'd read that some pellets aren't good for them in the long wrong...
My little monsters really like their mix of Roudybush and Zupreem, but if there are better alternatives, I'd like to switch them over!

Many here seem to like the harrisons, and have pointed me in that direction a few times. So that is what i switched angel onto. She seems to enjoy them.

Can't wait for you to get your new baby, i am excited to see some pictures when you get her home.

Many have pointed me to Harrison's also, unfortunately mine won't eat it. All of mine eat Zupreem. They will eat Roudybush pellets also, but they like the Zupreem better. The seed mix I get is safflower based so it has no sunflower seeds in it. Mine will pick out any sunflower seeds if they are there and eat them and then throw the rest out of the bowl. When I give them the safflower based seed they eat mostly all of it. I have heard good things about Drs Foster and Smith parrot food, but I have not tried any yet.

I ordered a 5lb bag of the omega-3 blend today, and can report back on if my guys touched it or not after it arrives :D
I thought I read somewhere that Safflowers aren't very good for them to eat a lot of?

I'm going to get some Harrison's next time I head to the store, I think. Pretty sure my local store carries it.

I tried the omega-3 blend with Espresso and she liked it okay....it's a lot of dried fruits/veggies and has a TON of sunflower seeds in it which I spent hours picking out so I could have more control of her intake. I wasn't a big fan honestly...I wound up mixing it with a different high-quality seed mix just to get rid of it and so she actually had stuff to eat (she hates dried fruit and pumpkin seeds).

Seeds in general aren't the best for them (safflower and sunflower being the worst) because they are high in fat. But, in moderation, I feel seeds are a important part of a balanced diet as long as you provide your fid with a high-quality pellet, fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains daily. Steer clear of pellets that claim to provide your parrot with their complete nutritional needs because that should never be the case :D

I ordered a 5lb bag of the Omega-3 mix, and there are hardly any sunflowers in it. I guess they recently changed the formula?
My monsters seem to really like it, and I'll see how they do with it in their diet.

I still have three months (give or take) to figure out what to do for the grey.

Thank you!

Oh that's good!! I could have had my extra-paranoid parront glasses on and saw TONS of sunflower seeds when there really was a totally fine healthy amount :30:. If your fids love it, awesome! Espresso is a very picky little miss (as a lot greys are. Hopefully your bay won't have that problem) so she didn't like it much.

My Macaw is the same. Loves the zupreem . Also fresh fruit in the morning and veggies in the afternoon.

I wish mine would eat some more veggies and fruit. I can get them to eat veggies if I mix them in rice or noodles. Fruit is hit or miss...mostly miss.

My birds: Skyler/Sky, violet Indian Ringneck. Mother's birds: Norman, African Grey and Mildred, Blue Crowned Conure.
Our birds all get Harrison's. We have always had a lot of success with it.
We have tried different brands but we haven't found anything better than the Harrison's.

Harrisons is what everyone told me too, but I went for the Hagen Tropican pellets. I can't fault them, they're not the golden child like Harrisons is but they seem sound. I'd recommend the fine sized for teils and conures (I give my bird granules Which is the next size up, because I can't find the finer sized ones where I am). They are a harder pellet, and they smell lovely but that is due to the use of rosemary oil. Goodluck!

BB would eat only Fruit if allowed. Last night I put fresh Greenbeans and carrots in his food dish. He tossed them all out. I thought fine. I took a small plate and put some fresh veggies on it. Sat on the floor near the cage and had myself a little veggie snack. Never once looking at him . Just munching away. It was not 5 minutes before he was down and across to me grabbing the veggies off the plate and munching with me. :D
