Do you feed cabbage?

I bought some "broccoli slaw" for the budgies since Mink was familiar with it during weaning. The bag contains broccoli and carrot cut into long narrow pieces (shaped like coarsely shredded cheese), and purple cabbage. I've been picking out the cabbage thinking it might cause a little upset tummy. What do you think?

I don't want to have to cook it either. I want to either use it raw out of the bag, or not at all.

Red cabbage is a favorite of my conure. Never noticed any discomfort. She's been eating it for the last 3 years that I've had her. She's never gotten huge amounts, but it's in a lot of organic lettuce mixes I get. She always picks it out first to eat.

I do. There is a lot of controversy about it though. Suzanne Rouso (not sure on the spelling, but it's the just cockatiels lady, most knowledgeable till expert I have found) has posted about the benefits of it for preventing yeast in the crop, a common issue with baby tiels.nmy budgie, Cloudy, my little friend form childhood, would eat it before millet! I feed reasonable amounts in my chop. Cabbage, kale, and Brussels sprouts have been said to inhibit thyroid function when fed in large quantities, and it is also said that cooking removes those properties (I know you don't want to cook it but I just learned it and figured it was applicable).

Thanks for the idea of the already shredded stuff. Never even thought about it.

Kiwi has never had issues with cabbage (though he will only eat the green cabbage, never the purple).

I add a little raw cabbage to chop. The quakers sort it out and toss it out of their bowls but the rest of the flock likes it.

Okay, thanks everyone :). I'll use it today and see what they think of it.
