Sprout People website is a great source and where I buy most of mine.
While some of the seed mixes look expensive, a very little goes along way. I typically use about a tablespoon and it makes enough for me and the birds.
They have them at most "natural" grocery stores where I live, so thats where I get mine. I've also had success sprouting certain common varieties out of the bulk bins (mung beans, chickpeas, chia seed) but if you want broccoli or radish or fenugreek of other "fancy" sprouts, you need the special sprouting seeds.
P.S. I have also heard sprout people sell good seeds.
Thanks you three! I checked out the sprout people and I like what I see! But I do have a couple organic places by me I can get to. Will check out the sprout house shortly
I'm a bit confused, however. Clearly I'm not looking for a bag of 15 bean soup beans, so what exactly am I looking for? I'm wrestling with the notion that all these packaged stuff won't sprout. I need help bridging this gap here, so I need help understanding what to look for when I go (keep in mind too that I don't actually shop at these places so I'm not familiar with their product).
If you are going to a co-op or something similar I'll bet someone that works there will be able to help you. Essentially any seed/bean/legume you can sprout. Most seeds are really easy, some beans take a bit more time.
I usually get their sampler which has a ton of different seeds. A lot of packaged stuff does sprout, but things like kidney and black beans seem like they would take way too long and I'm not certain if their ones you would want to sprout. where as chickpeas and lentils will start sprouting in 24 hours. Personally I like their spicier one and so does foo-has like radish and such in it.
