For the last two weeks Doobie has been saying bake a pie? I've never mentioned anything about pie to him, he comes up with all kinds of things! The other morning I uncovered him and the first thing he said to me was pumpkin pie! So I'm wondering how I would make a bird safe pumpkin pie without dairy or sugar. I do make him Harvest bread that has pumpkin in it but apparently he has a craving for pie...lol

Any pumpkin pie recipes for Doobie? :D

That is TOO funny!!! Doobie is asking for foods by name, HAHAHAH!

Even though I don't have an actual recipe, I may have an idea:
Get some Graham crackers (or the Graham cracker crust), cut a pumpkin in half, clean it, bake it for 1 hour at 300 degrees, or until soft. Scoop out the soft 'meat', add some cinnamon and put on top of Graham crackers. :)

Sydney - Blue Front Amazon
Gonzo - Congo African Grey
Willow - Cockatiel
RIP:
Snowy, Ivy, Kiwi, Ghost - Parakeets
Berry - Cinnamon GCC
I was thinking maybe a little crushed pellets and some almond flour with a little coconut oil in the bottom of a ramekin for a crust and either fresh cooked pumpkin like Wendy said, or even the canned PLAIN pumpkin would be good, with lots of cinnamon and maybe a cinnamon stick stuck in it!

He wants a pie and he wants it NOW. And not just any pie, but pumpkin pie:D What a character!

Heres a good pie recipe for sharing with birds (we just made one of these, everyone enjoyed human and avian, it didn't last long!):

This Rawsome Vegan Life: RAW VEGAN PUMPKIN PIE with WHIPPED COCONUT CREAM

and you can always substitute in agave or maple syrup if you can't find coconut nectar.

Well, he kept saying bake a pie? to me, I've never mentioned pie to him so he must have gotten that from his previous owner, this bird comes up with all sorts of things and reminds me of a human trapped in a feathered body! My other Red bellied parrot is not this way at all!

One night I finally asked him what kind of pie? Apple or pumpkin? He looked at me like he was considering his options. I then covered him for the night and when I uncovered him the next morning the first thing he said was pumpkin pie! Just like he had all night to sleep on it and make his decision! Realistically, who knows if he really wants a pie but then who knows? That bird is so gosh darn smart! Who knows just WHAT he knows! Regardless, I thought I'd make him the pie he's talking about just for the fun of it hehe

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm definitely going to make his requested pie :) I'll let you know what I decide to use.

I wouldnt go with real pumpkin pie, tons of sugar and dairy...

What a goose! I love that! Last night Mel said "Hi you pretty girl" and waved. That is not something I have taught her, but she has never said it to me or waved at me, and I have had her for over a year! It's crazy what they learn! I wonder if maybe what he is really asking is to spend time near you? Perhaps his previous owner had in the kitchen and would spend the day in there while making pie?

Also, where is a good place to get pumpkins? All the places I have gone are out and I don't really want to go to "The Pumpkin Patch."

That could be! She must have baked pies, I also think she could have been a teacher of some sort who brought Doobie into class with her because sometimes when I uncover him he'll say Good Morning Everybody! Lol.....

Are the grocery stores all out? All I know is the Pumpkin Patch besides that. I need to get one too!
