I went on a girl's weekend, Husband stayed home so he got to take care of everyone. He's not good with remembering things, especially with a football game playing so I phoned each morning and evening to tell him what to do. I had ziplock bags pre filled with foods for Buddy and Venus. Basic instructions like change their water bowls, empty contents of food bags into a ceramic bowl, microwave it for 30 seconds, cut up fresh bell pepper, grate some carrot, mix in. Spoon half into two clean stainless bowl, put it in their cage. Put dirty stainless bowls in dishwasher and wash. Very simple.

Day three, he told me I was making things difficult, lol! I told him to get a sweet potato out of the fridge, stab it with a knife to vent it, put it and a cup of water in the microwave and cook it for 15 minutes. He did it, and then told me I officially was a crazy bird lady, and he shook his head when I told him I was making birds bread for thanksgiving, lol!!! Has anyone else been called out?

Bahahaha everyone I know anymore seem to be crazy bird people. My thanksgiving will have Jeanne and John (A Helping Wing owners), Chris (A Helping Wing volunteer who has a moluccan he puts in little dresses...okay fine shes a plucker/mutilator), Cameron and Cody (adopting a Lory from the shelter and they make up shakes for their current Lory everyday), and my poor uncle the only non bird person....obviously my mother and stepfather will be there also are bird crazy people.

Jeanne can recall which bowls go with which cage and fill up every food bowl with specfics for each bird from the kitchen table at the shelter....I can also tell you which bowls won't work with which cages lol.

I can relate. I went to California for a little less than a week at the end of September. Hubby had to take off work to take care of my mini zoo. Additionally we had pre-training/instructional sessions. AND I had printed out several pages worth of detailed instructions. :D

Everyone survived (even though hubby ended up in hospital the day after I left....). But the best part was that he truly bonded to each and everyone of them - deeply. :D

Yeah...

Well...

When you're a GUY and folks start calling you the crazy bird lady...

It has an entirely different connotation.

Actually, I believe the phrase was, "So you're like the crazy cat lady, only with birds!"

I am officially the crazy cat lady...just found a kitten under my car at work...that makes five cats, one parrot, one hedgehog, eight sugargliders. Not to mention the hog and macaw my neighbor has..that I take care of.
I make smoothies for everyone in the morning,I can tell you which bowls treats go in which ones are only for water. And how much food to portion for everyone without measuring. Lol wouldn't have it anyother way!! My nickname for the longest time was squirrel becuz of my gliders and I rehabilitate baby squirrels back to the wild.

Ginger,carrots,beets,sweet potatoes,cucumbers,spinach,strawberries,blueberries,bananas,apples,oranges,
Pears, grapes and pineapple.then I mix in apple juice and sometimes Greek organic yogurt ...it's super thick but everyone one loves it...even the hedgehog.
Sissy is still very picky, but as long as it's in a cup she will eat it. Sometimes I throw scrambled egg and broccoli in it as well..of course I won't eat it that way lol
