last big milestone!!

A year later and I can finally say Espresso has a "good diet!" She had a horrendous diet for her first 17 years...if she even got fed, it was just seeds. Poor girl.

But now!! After trying 6 different pellets, countless fruit and veggies, even more methods of preparation, and a year of trying and trying and trying: I have finally gotten her to eat her healthy foods! The winning combination is a warm breakfast of mushy chop/grain mix with tons of nutrient-rich veggies (the cheese grater is our best friend) mixed with almond butter and coconut oil so she will eat all the good stuff. Then a mix of zupreem natural and pretty bird pellets for all day snacking and finally, the thing I have been working on since day one, we eat fresh fruits and veggies for dinner! No more seeds (for now...the almond butter and coconut oil is high fat enough)!! She looks and acts so much more healthy and active nowadays. Just goes to show how absolutely essential a good diet is for parrots and how long it can take...

If y'all are interested, I can absolutely share my "picky bird chop" recipe! And, after trying literally every trick in the book, I can share them all.

What an AWESOME update!!! I could literally see you beaming while you wrote this - and rightfully so! I'm all smiles over here for you/with you.

Oh please do share your 'picky bird chop' recipe, along with all the tricks of the trade. We have SO many members with picky birds, members who are having a hard time getting their fid(s) to try new things, so any and all help will be so much appreciated.

The only fresh things she would pick at were apples and grapes for the longest time..when she finally ate her bananas, cranberries, and veggies I'm pretty sure I shed a little proud tear. I'm so happy!! Thank you!!!

I'll edit my first post with my recipe and some tricks today. It's a doozy hahaha

Happy for ya! Willow is in ^THAT boat now, although I can occasionally get her to eat a little carrot and she seems to like pomegranate and orange. So far I've tried squash, green beans, peas, jalapenos, bell peppers, tomato, lettuce, broccoli, cucumber, pickle, and more I'm surely forgetting, and she won't eat any of it except a couple hand-fed peas. She does LOVE corn tho, (of course, it's not that healthy) especially on the cob!

I have a picky bird...please share your recipe. Right now sissy will devour smoothies but I have to be pretty creative lol. I sometimes add coconut oil to it, but her weight seems normal and she's active.
