mail order source for small quantities of pellets

I am looking for a source for pellets for my 30 year old BFA. I would like to get her on healthier ones. When we adopted her 9 weeks ago, she was on a mix of Kaytee seed blend and Zupreme Fruity pellets after having a seed diet for her whole life. She seems to like the Zupreme pellets, but a quick read of the ingredients tells me they have sugar and other ingredients that are unnecessary--not to mention that they smell like Fruit Loops. I hesitate to buy a big bag of pellets without trying them out first. Basically, I'm limited to Petco and Pet Smart so I'm more than willing to mail order. I'd like to get some natural pellets to mix in with her current mix, eventually phasing the Zupreme out. I'd also like to try a variety of sizes to see if she likes the larger ones. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd suggest Drs Foster and Smith. Yes the Zupreem are pretty sweet but n it might help to get her on a better brand. I feed alot of Kaytee or Zupreem Natural Daily maintenance pellets. That website offers many different pellets at reasonable prices. If you are having to store the pellets , try keeping the extra in an air tight container in the freezer. Many of the vitamins will "decay" over time if left to the elements. Also check the date on the package, most are only good for one year and i'm sure the quality is diminished sooner than that.

Thanks. I purchased the smallest bag of pellets when we got Gloria in January. and they will be gone by the end of April at the latest. I store them in a plastic snap tight container--like those for dry cat food or cereal. We get grain moths sometimes so I'm pretty careful about food storage. I did see the Zupreme natural ones. I'd love to try just a small quantity though instead of a whole bag. I'll check the sources suggested above!

Kathy sells the Zupreem Natural by the pound, if you want to just give them a try.

Not only the Zupreem, but other brands are sold by pound, too.

I buy in bulk and also store in the freezer. There is a lot of oil in the pellets and it will go rancid!

Have you considered fresh foods? I have my fids on fresh food parrot chops. My Husband claims I feed my birds better than us. I don't know what he means, lol!

If you are looking for something similar to Zupreem Naturals without the sugar or added vitamins, Roudybush Maintenance California Blend may be a be a good choice.

Since Roudybush is fairly inexpensive at MSBS, I'd order a pound of the medium AND a pound of the small to see which one your BFA prefers.

My Sun won't touch Rowdybush. He gets mostly fresh fruits, veggies, human grade seeds, tree nuts and the Zupreem pellets....fruity and non-fruity. Then he eats off our plates with rice, egg, cooked spinach and kale, chicken, salmon, cereal, sprouted bread, and anything else he wants as long as I think it's healthy. Like I'm not giving him ice cream or anything. But this is a small bird....and the only one in our family, so we spoil him. He's a little piglet and it's all I can do to keep him out of the dog food!

I switched my birds over to Roudybush a few months ago, and my Sydney eats the small, though I just got the medium.

He was on a crappy seed diet too when I got him, but I honestly switched him over cold turkey to pellets, and then added seeds back in. I'm very lucky that he'll pretty much eat anything (that goes for all three of my BFA's actually.)

All of the big bird food makers will send you a sample of their products,if you goto their website and email them direct. I think thats what you should do. It worked or me.
That way you're not buying a pound of fertilizer,if your bird refuses it.
