So, question. I have started using popcorn as a training treat for the pretty chicken. She is in love with it. My question is, can she have the kernels that never pop? I know she likes dried corn, she had been given it at the rescue as a treat, but are the unpopped kernels from popcorn okay? They aren't flavored or anything, just plain popcorn.

Popcorn is one of those food items that is a damn if you agree with it and the same if you don't. As you noted, it all comes down to whether its plain or covered with every no-no know to parrot owners. Since, Popcorn is one of those Foods that is what is in the mind of the individual, even if you state 'plain!'

So, walking out to the edge here: Plain Popcorn, especially if its air popped is a great treat for Human and Parrot alike! Non-popped kernels, once again from air popped would be the same. I THINK. Somethings change when cooked, so?

I would rather provide popcorn, popped in a natural oil than the kernel that did not pop, but cooked in that oil. But that's me.

Popcorn kernels are the right size that most medium parrots find them interesting.

You can try but I suspect it might be too hard for ekkies, who have weaker beaks than most. Parker doesnt eat dried fruits in his mixes for this reason, they are too hard for him.

Nutriberries brand makes popcorn that the boys absolutely love. It smells caramel-y good :)! It has a glaze that must be a little sweet, with seeds stuck to the outside. I'm afraid to try one but they make my mouth water lol. No kernels in it.

All of my birds enjoy sprouted popcorn! It's just a plain kernel popcorn soaked for 12-24 hours and then drained and rinsed every few hours for a day or two. They're much more nutritious this way, and also probably much softer for your ekkie.

Check out some of the threads on sprouting, but I definitely think your ekkie will like it, even as a treat.
