I have a problem:
My lovebirds love seed diet packs that you buy at supermarkets...
I got them when they where 2 years old, now they'r 3. The first year they nearly just got these seed mixes with sunflower seeds. As i tryed to get something knew i realised how hard it will be. Exept from the seed mixes they eat:
Salad
Cucumber (the favourite)
Quiqina or something... you know what i mean.
Dryed fruits on a stick (cheep one)

AND NO MORE!
So pls. Do me a favour and write down some EASY suggestions. Its importand couse the hen is laying eggs now....
Thanks

I cant help with the diet so I am just giving you a bump so others can see this thread. ;)

But I have to say that there is no EASY solution so you will have to settle with doing a bit of work to get the results.

I think if you struggle with getting them to eat, the best course of action might be to find out what vitamins a laying bird needs and maybe buy a supplement for the drinking water?

I don't know too much about this I'm afraid but I've heard this is a good way. It can even be done naturally. For example you can add pure fruit juices into water such as orange or apple. Again, it depends on the vitamins needed. :)

Calcium in the diet is also important, especially now that the hen is laying, you can get calcium products to add to food or water, or you can try a pelleted food that has calcium added, if thats not an option you can feed natutal foods such as dark green leafy vegetables ie: turnip greens, mustard greens, kale, dandelion greens, broccoli, collard greens, kohlrabi, endive , you want to stay away from spinach and swiss chard as they actually inhibit the absoration of calcium, you can also try some hard boiled egg for protien with the egg shell ground up along with it for the calcium, hope that helps :)

I just had a disturbing thought: when a hen is laying one might want to get rid of the eggs (if they are not fertile, and after the appropriate time), and you also want to feed them some boiled eggs ... ... ...

I disturb myself sometimes.

I have my lovebird for just over 2months and she is sunflower seed crazy. When I took her to the vet he put her onto mix made by Premium and I bought the Parakeet and the Amazon one and mixed the two. It has allsorts in there and the correct amount of sunflower seeds. I also use a vit supplement and the vet said the combo with fruit/veg will ensure she is healthy. I give Rosie a wide variety of fruit/veg - depending what I have at home. She has now settled with the mix and is eating fruit/veg that I give her. Do you get the Premium brand where you are? Its very good :)

No....im living in sweden, in lund. Here we dont have so much parrot thing, sadly.:(
But like you said, with mixing healthy and unhealthy foods: I tried that!
Then i watched them eating it.
And guess what... They picked out what they liked (the seeds and the cucumber) and just leaved the rest un-eaten...
Thats why i have this problem. But thanks anyway.
If i order some pellets, do you think i can get them to eat that??

I would try to order some Roudybush Breeder pellets in crumble or mini size. Mix them in their dry and wet food. Make some birdie bread and add pellets and fresh foods to it also. I also offered my breeders scrambled or boiled egg with bits of egg shell for calcium. About 2-3 times a week. You can also grate up cuttlebone and add to birdiebread or fresh foods.
