Best seed brand?

im planning on getting from online Roudybush Daily Maintenance Bird Food Mini and Volkman Avian Science Lovebird & Conure Bird Seed but is their a seed better than volkmans for smaller birds like lovebirds?

Not sure what the roudybush stuff has in it. Pelleted food is lots better for them... something like Zupreme naturals or Harrisons.. which I use with my birds... but to keep them from getting bored I will feed a high quality seed/pellet mix... something like Sunsations... mixed in with the pelleted foods mentioned above. Zupreme naturals are faintly sweet and crunchy and my birds took to it pretty fast... AFTER watching me eat some off a plate ( fooled em in to thinkin its people food). Main thing is I want my birds healthy with a varied diet that's not boring as that staple in the cage, but daily I also give them fresh fruit/veggie mix. Hope this helps

I've found that if I feed seed, I can't get my birdie to eat her greens. I decided to use seeds for training and as rewards to tempt her to play with foraging toys (where she has to "earn" the seed by chewing her way into the toy). We feed Harrisons' and Zupreem pellets.

I agree 100%. I spent most of yesterday separating the components of a 3 lb. bag of Higgin's Vita Seed. Sunflower seeds in one pile, safflower in another, corn in a third pile, and the rest went into his mixture of pellets and dried fruits for his normal ration. Lastly, the peanuts went in the left-over pile that we feed to the wild critters sharing the farm.

When training/treating, I have separate containers with different treats. Right now the highest value treats are sunflower seeds - which are given sparingly for BIG rewards. I try to use the safflower seeds more, but sometimes Tsali objects and demands his beloved sunflower.

Most avian vets recommend Harrison's Bird Pellets (you can order online) plus fresh veggies and such, with seed as a treat or occasional late-day-after-the-good-food-has-been-eaten snack. This regimen has kept my bird illness and injury free for 30-plus years! I really recommend it.

I am a big fan of the blends from Goldenfeast. My birds get the Gourmet Conure and Garden Medley blends in addition to Harrison's pellets and fresh vegetation.

ABBA has pretty good seed mixes too. When you order direct from them, you get something freshly packed which is nice.

I like to make my own mixes, love Nuts.com and Tierra Farm - I pick and choose super healthy seeds, and know what each bird likes and tailor what they get based on what they will eat that's also good for them. A lot less waste and no filler crap like safflower.

While I cannot answer the OP question of "best seed brand," birds are extremely demanding and require our creativity to provide a healthy diet.

My technique is to provide fresh veggies/fruits, pellet mix, and small quantities of a quality seed, supplemented by various treats. I consider the fresh diet to be best, so 3 to 4 days per week it is the ONLY food available during the day.

During the "off" days they have a mix of Zupreem pellets and seed mix blended by the store. (first ingredient is safflower, no sunflower) Early in the day either a dense whole grain bread or thick portion of oatmeal/oatbran is given, with a small bit of string cheese once a week.
