Low Fat

Hi all! I was wondering if you know of any reputable low-fat parrot food that isn't pellets. I've found something called Crazy Corn, but I can't tell how good it is as a pellet replacement. Any advice for someone who can't make all their bird food by hand?

My parrots quite like tidymix. It has a much smaller percentage sunflower seeds than most other seed mixes for large parrots I have seen, which is why I chose that in the first place. I am trying to convert my parrots to pellets, but will continue to give a small portion of seeds in the evening.

The Parrot World has evolved regarding what is a healthy diet.

Today, it seems to be settling around a Natural Diet. A diet that is based around healthy fresh foods including Veggies, and Fruits (commonly referred to as Chop) supported by a wide cross-section of natural seeds, grains, and nuts found in the region of the World that the specific Parrot came from. Pellets represents a percentage of the dry food component offered each day. The dry food component wants to be comprised of 'Human Grade' elements. i.e., it is grown, processed and packaged for Human Consumption, as its classification.

With Amazon's it no Sunflower or Sunflower like seed and no Peanuts. This resulting from Amazons need for a lower Protein based diet, since Amazons can easily develop Fatty Liver.

Tidymix is human grade and low sunflower seed if this is your only option but there is also the half way house ie Nutriberries which is pellet/complete diet and seed mixed into little balls. Also works well as treats and foraging foods for increased cage activity. The fresh diet should be the premier route as Sailboat already explained to ensure good health and longevity in your parrot.

If struggling to incorporate fresh veggies and fruit etc into your parrots diet there is always the option of making birdie bread to hide some of these essentials in an acceptable food stuff.

We have loads of recipes for chop and birdie bread if required.
