Josie - pineapple GCC and Hiccup - rose crowned conure
Whenever I make toast for my kids (non-feathered) and apply butter or margarine, Josie (feathered kid) runs over to the container and, if I allowed it, I'm sure would dive in head first. She eats toast scraps occasionally and gets crazy excited when she comes across a "glob" of butter, with no toast attached. Am I missing something in her diet? She eats better than me! I can't turn my back for two seconds making breakfast or lunch, not because of knives or stoves or ovens, but because of butter and margarine. She's not fussy, as long as it's yellow. Is this going to make her sick? Obviously I stop her when I see her doing it, I don't just allow her to eat unsupervised from the butter tub. Conures are weird.

First, Margarine is a chemical stew, read the information sections of the box /container. The muddy gray color of the original formulation was so bad that the individual that found a way to color it so it 'looks like butter' was provided a huge sum of money. Your choice, but we have removed it from our home.

Butter, when used correctly and limited is much better than Margarine.

Parrots and Butter, a mix best applied in very limited (tiny) amounts.

There is likely nothing missing in your Parrot's diet that 'creates' a want for Butter! It just tastes great!

Ohmigosh! Josie is adorable! I'd have trouble telling her no too, maybe it would be easier to never let her see the yellow stuff at all.

I agree with Sailboat, she isn't missing anything in her diet, she just knows what she likes.
