Non organic sweet potatoes?

So sweet potatoes were .88 cents a lb at ththe grocery store so I bought some for Timnehs mashed. I usually stick to 99% organic fruits and vegetables. Is it worth the savings to use these non organic sweet potatoes. I always wash everything really well and I usually peel what I can. So I don't put the skin of the potatoe in. What do you guys think?

I'm not going into Organic and non-Organic discussion other than to say that unless you know the farm you are getting the foods from and have been there, you never really know for sure! It is so bad that I have seen terms show-up like: Certified Organic! But in all honesty, unless you know that group, it remains the same issue. With the big players in the market having full control over the major growers of Organic foods, that leaves the little guys and their ability to meet the requirements of their local customers.

At this point in your life, the savings is worth the risk, if any exist! We cook potatoes whether sweet or white.

The high costs, high taxes and high tech farming has really cut into over-use of bug killers and growth products to a minimum compared to the past when they had been dumping the stuff on the plants.

Now, there should be a bunch of people jumping in on the dangers of drugging plants. That all said, the information base used are all prior to the current application methods and what is being used. The last twenty years has seen major changes in Farming and the last ten years that change is huge!

I use non organic - always peeled, washed well etc.

I serve non organic sweet potatoes and yams. While we never know how the soil is prepared and what substances are used, potatoes are AFAIK less susceptible to absorbing nasties than other plants.

IMO strawberries, asparagus, lettuce and other items that grow above the ground and cannot be peeled are more critical. All of that said, unless you grow yourself, control is essentially lost in favor of trust given faceless farmers!

Salty gets off the shelf non-organic sweet taters, and has for almost 2 years, like 2 x a month.
Washed and zapped and peeled and cut into little chunks. He loves them
