So, in light of Kiwi's recent itchy butt (vet appointment to figure out exactly what is going on is tomorrow), I threw 2 small bags of pellets on an order from amazon to offer in his foraging in addition to seed mix in case he's deficient in something. My mom has, for years, given a little handful of Zupreem a few times a week to her birds as something of a 'supplement' since it has a lot of vitamins and whatnot. I still intend to keep him on his primarily fresh food diet unless explicitly told otherwise by the vet and continue keeping the seeds as a small part of his diet and perhaps the pellets too (we'll see, I'm still VERY skeptical about them). I got him roudybush pellets and Higgins intune natural, which appear to be something like a natural Zupreem.

Now, I also tried the pellets (the things we do for our birds huh?). Pretty gag worthy TBH, Higgins slightly more palatable than the roudybush but he interestingly seemed to like the roudybush ones most. The Higgins, he seemed only to like the green ones. Not sure what I'll do with the other colors yet, possibly make them into some kind of bird bread or cracker perhaps... Just thought it was interesting he actually seemed to like the pellet that looked like rabbit poop (and tasted about like what I'd imagine rabbit poo tasting like too). I figured they would have been promptly rejected. Go figure!

If only he felt the same about leafy greens! Those must be snuck into in chop in such tiny pieces he cannot possibly pick them out:p

I personally look at the pellets almost like cereal

my analogy puts your typical roudybrush and higgins are akin in terms of health ETC to bran and corn flakes, meanwhile Zupreem fruit is closer to say Froot loops.

The healthier options are certainly palatable to those that like them but for some the allure of essentially candy for breakfast is pretty appetizing. Hopefully Kiwi likes her bran flakes :p

Kiwi may not realize pellets are 'healthy'. Generally, healthy food is flat rejected or begrudgingly eaten because he knows better options won't come and is hungry. But these are being offered as foraging treats, so pretty voluntary. I smelled the fruity ones on his breath earlier.
