Ellie, my 3 years old tornado. Or Amazon parrot ;)
Hii, I have recently started with chop for my amazon due to lack of time and the posibility of freezing it. However, Ellie refuses to eat most of it. I chopped the veggies and fruits really small, even for her, but she still picks them.

Above all, she loves the Quinoa -I made it with an infusion of ginger, and she seems to love it. Problem is, after I put the food inm she dives right in but only eats quinoa seeds.

How can I make her try all of it? She used to love fresh veggies, and she still does when I give them to her on the mornings when I don't have college early -4 days of the week, which is why I'm not really worried about her not eating the chop, cause she's still getting a good deal of veggies and fruit-.
Any advice? Thank you!!! :green:

To 'make' an Amazon do something is near impossible and something that I have never been able to accomplish.

May want to start from the place that your BFA will accept the mix and 'with time' work toward a chop. Some Amazon just do not care, after all its Food, others will only accept whatever, as long as its only the way they like it.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Consider plating a portion for yourself along with your amazon and start eating! Parrots are flock-eaters and consider you as similar. Eat showing enjoyment; mmm sounds, etc. Worth a try, often works with some foods.

Took my conure 12 years to accept the chop/mash foods that I make for my birds. Not to say he didn't eat it before, but he used to eat it with disdain, like he really didn't want to eat it, but he ate *some* of it anyway.

I did use to use a grains and legumes as a base and have started to use sprouts as a base now, but it still took a while before he started eating it with gusto.

Variety is the spice of life - fo people and parrots too. In the wild they will eat what ever is coming to ripeness and is most plentyfull. You might consider 2 or 3 chop recipies and put them in rotation. Also if he does not relish finely chopped try a chunkier style. See other suggestions above and in our Nutrition subforum. And as 'Boats says you can't force Amazons ( or any parrot) to domuch and certainly not eat what they dont want.
