Hello
Where I live it is very difficult to find Harrison’s, Roundybush or Zupreem pellets for my new Green Cheek Conure but I can easily get hold of Nutribird and I wondered whether it is a well thought of brand for Pellets and how it compares to the other three and if you give Nutribird are you happy with it for your parrots?

Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
I feed the nutribird pellets (alternate with others).

Harrisons seems te be made of gold and is out of my pricerange, and I had never even heard of Roundybush till I got here. Zupreem seems te be made of mostly sugar (they are the sweetest pellets on the planet afaik) and is not sold around here (online: no problem).

I absolutely hate the beige nutribird ones (fake vanilla overkill like adolecents overdose on deodorants) -> gagging!
My parrots love the coloured version (their own size and sometimes I buy the smaller bird ones to challenge their fouraging a bit more)

- was looking into Roundybush because people kept telling me it was hypo-alergene ... then I looked at the ingredients ...
(that was a bust)
Harrisons ... does not to seem to offer anything the other pellets do not have.
(Organic is a lot of times just a farce as well / see controll. I dont mind paying through the nose for some really good stuf, but not for a brandname! )

whoops sorry to sound negative

back to pellets:
One of my greys and the maccaw would happily chomp away on them till the end of their days and not try anything else.
(bunch of hidebound, narrowminded chickens!)

Not sure which brand was involved in the "complete bags of moldy bread were processed in the making of the pellets"; plastic bag, metal clips and all!
But that is the story that is still floating around and quoted as a valid argument by the oldtimer-parrotbreeders who do not want to feed pellets and stick to the "seeds and veggies only" ways.
(they could be right...who knows ;) )

Different countries have really different approaches to quality-controll, so I would be lying if I told you it did not bother me!

Hi Christa
Thank you for your help. I tend to agree with regard to Harrison's if my pocket stretched to it i would consider it but whilst I would prefer to feed fresh organic fruit and veg e i am not sure about the pellets.
My one concern with Nutri bird fruit pellet is the sugar and colour added could this be a problem? Do you also f e ed chop fruit and vegetables or would to much pellet and natural cause a problem?

The sizing is a bit of a mess -- if I were handy I would post pictures.
(sorry )
the P15 pieces are somewhat the size of my pinky-fingernail (there are smaller and larger flat pieces) the G15 are spherical and a lot smaller.
(they always remind me of the little foamy balls in dogpillows etc.)

I feed both - because for the grays there is a bigger challence in looking for smaller pieces (have not tried the little ones on the macaw yet), but... the shop-made foraging toys work better with the larger pieces.

I agree on the colouring and sugars (both are overkill imho) but well... unless I decide to make my own someday...they will have to do.

I have pellets as a staple - always available, but also feed seedmix (daily), millet, nuts, veggies and fruit and they will steal my food if they get half a chance.
Most people will cringe at this- but I have to admit I am very inconsistent: they mostly get seasonal fruit/veggies.
So some days are more "pellety" than others.

My one CAG would eat pellets all the time (sorry repeating myself here) the other one is really fond of seeds (and human food:) always trying to raid the fridge... so she ignores her own pellets, but will climb into the macawcage to pellet-crunch away...
(they are the same pellets!!) every single morning!

Cage swapping pellet eating, happens at my house too!!! It's too funny, we all want what the other gal/guy have!!! I feed a mix if brand name pellets and pellet sizes. My Quaker's like the larger pellet size. But I also feed mixed seed, and fresh veggies, daily.
