First, I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the tips, help, and suggestions. While I knew my dad's bird, I was not in their home raising him so having a support board like this has been wonderful! Second, I apologize in advance for a long post. I just wanted to give a little food background on a Winston.
It has been two weeks since Winston has become a Canadian! He is doing great. We are getting to learn about one another which is interesting and fun. Right now, it is with his diet.
Some history:
With my dad and step-mom he got mostly a seed mix, random fresh veggies, and he would share whatever my step-mom was eating. This was for about 22 years.
When my dad got sick, my step-mom also declined so am assuming he got mostly seed and an occasional fruit/veggie. Maybe more people food. This last for about a year and a half.
When my step-mom went into a care facility, a friend went to
Visit poor Winston and to make sure he had fresh water, seed, and a fruit. This was heartbreaking, so we found an awesome lady who took him in. When she picked him up, his feathers were black.
At this awesome lady's place, he was given healthy chop twice a day, a good seed mix, and natural pellets. The black was disappearing from his feathers. He was with her for around 8 months.
Now with me, he gets fresh fruit and veggies along with whole grains twice a day. He is finishing up the seed and pellet care package that was given to me. I am reading so many difference of opinions so would like some more
tips on what seed and pellet mixes are good for Ekkies. His primary food is fresh fruit and veggies. He loves these! But, I also want to make sure he is getting enough nutrients. I ordered him the Alternative Tropican pellets but have not found a seed. He loves loves loves food! Seriously. He will do anything for
food! I am planning on his diet being mostly fresh, but would like help on seed and pellet suggestions. I am on Vancouver Island, so not a lot of brand options but my main store will order products in for me. I know this is a topic where some say no pellet and seed while others say yes to pellet and seed.
I love this "little" green guy and just want him to be happy. He has been through so much.
Thanks!
